The eye movement controlling neural pathways establishes connection between the intraorbital eye muscles and the nuclei of the ocular motor nerves. The cranial nerves control the eye movement are oculomotor, trochlear and abducens nerve. Among them oculomotor nerve, the third cranial nerve, supplies four extraocular muscles(superior rectus, medial rectus, inferior rectus, in- ferior oblique), the levator of the eyelid and contains parasympathetic fibers that supply the sphincter of the pupil and ciliary body.
If the oculomotor nerve palsy is suspected, accurate diagnosis of the lesion site and cause is important, because some underlying cause like as posterior communicating artery aneurysm require emergency treatment.
