Health at a Glance Asia/Pacific 2010

This first edition of Health at a Glance: Asia/Pacific presents a set of key indicators of health status, the determinants of health, health care resources and utilisation, and health care expenditure and financing across 27 Asia/Pacific countries and economies in the Asia/Pacific region.

Drawing on a wide range of data sources, it builds on the format used in previous editions of Health at a Glance: OECD Indicators, and gives readers a better understanding of the factors that affect the health of populations and the performance of health systems.

Each of the 32 indicators in the book is presented in a user-friendly format, consisting of charts illustrating variations across countries and over time, brief descriptive analyses highlighting the major findings conveyed by the data, and a methodological box on the definition of the indicator and any limitations in data comparability. An annex provides additional information on the demographic contexts in which health systems operate.

OECD/KOREA POLICY CENTRE

The Joint OECD/Korea Policy Centre (www.oecdkorea.org) is an international cooperation organisation established by a Memorandum of Understanding between the OECD and the Government of the Republic of Korea. The Centr e - officiall y opened on 7 July 2008 - r esults from the integration of four pr e-existing OECD/Korea Centres, one of whic h w as the Regional Centr e on Heal th and Social Policy (RCHSP), established in 2005.

The maj or fun ctions of th e Centr e ar e to r esearch i nternational standards and po licies on international taxation, competition, public governance, and social policy sectors in OECD member countries and to disseminate research outcomes to public officials and experts in the Asian region. In the area of health and social polic y, the Centr e promotes policy dialogue and information sharing between OECD countries and non-OECD Asian/Pacific countries and economies.

There are three main areas of work: social protection statistics (jointly with the International Labour Organisation and the Asian Development Bank); health expenditure and financing statistics (jointly with the Asian P acific National Health account Netw ork and the World Health Or ganisation) and on pen sion policies (jointly with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank). In pursuit of this vision, the Centre hosts various kinds of educational pr ograms, international meetings, s eminars, and w orkshops in eac h sector and provides policy forums presented by experts at home and abroad.
