Analysis of the Creative Personalities of Science-gifted Students in a University Science Education Center for Gifted Student

Science-gifted students are selected by school teachers’ recommendations for a university science education center. In such a situation, creative personalities could affect the teachers’ recommenda- tion and the selection. Thus, an analysis of the creative personalities of science-gifted students is necessary. In this study, the creative personalities of science-gifted students for the university sci- ence education center in 2011 and 2012 were analyzed using a creative-personality test. The factors on the test for science-gifted students, the correlations between factors, the occurrence of clusters, and analyses of the characteristics by clusters were analyzed. Self-confidence, humor, endurance, cu- riosity, imagination, openness, adventure, and independence were validated factors. Self-confidence and endurance, self-confidence and curiosity, and imagination and adventure had high correlations.

Four clusters were observed; cluster I (N = 31, 34%) had high creative personalities but low indepen- dence. Cluster II (N = 22, 24%) had low creative personalities with specifically lowest adventure.

Cluster III (N = 21, 22%) had high creative personalities with high self-confidence, curiosity, and imagination. Finally, cluster IV (N = 18, 20%) had average creative personalities but low humor.
