Hailey : ① Good afternoon, everyone!

② This is Hailey, and today we are talking about jobs of the future.

③ Many high school students are encouraged to figure out which career they would like to pursue in the future.

⑫ Likewise, I believe that robots will have a similar effect, replacing lots of the jobs that people are doing now.

② Do you mean it is inevitable that we will be losing our jobs in the future?

Dr. Kim : ③ You don’t have to worry too much.

③ 당신이 너무 많이 걱정할 필요는 없습니다.

④ People have always been able to replace the jobs that are lost because of new technology.

⑤ It is important to focus on what humans are good at, such as creativity and imagination.

⑥ When it comes to inventing new technologies or creating inspiring art, humans have a striking advantage over robots.

⑥ 새로운 기술을 고안하거나 영감을 주는 예술을 만들어내는 것에 관해서는 인간이 로봇보다 두드러진 장점을 가지고 있습니다.

Hailey : ⑦ I see. ⑧ Then, what will be some of the most promising jobs in the future?

⑦ 알겠습니다. ⑧ 그러면, 무엇이 미래에 가장 유명한 직업들 중 몇몇이 될까요?

Dr. Kim : ⑨ In my opinion, the majority of jobs that people will have in the future probably haven’t even been invented yet.

⑨ 제 의견에는, 사람들이 미래에 가지게 될 대다수의 직업들은 아마도 아직 고안되지도 않았을 것입니다.

⑩ About ten years ago, smartphone application developers didn’t exist.

⑪ But now I think they’re one of the hottest jobs around.

Hailey : ① But if that’s the case, then how can we prepare for our future?

Dr. Kim : ② No one knows exactly what skills you’ll need in the future.

④ Because the world is changing rapidly, what you learn today can quickly become outdated.

⑦ I suggest you pay attention to both the general technological trends and their effects on the industry that you are interested in.

Hailey : ⑧ That sounds like good advice.

Dr. Kim : ⑩ There is a famous quote that I always mention when I talk about future jobs:

⑬ Although it is hard to forecast what our future will look like, by knowing how to learn and keeping up to date on new technology, we can always be prepared for whatever the future may hold.
