Customizing Your GC?
SRI offers many different GC platforms from which you can develop the type of GC you desire. Select the basic GC platform and then add the injection ports, ovens, detectors, and PeakSimple™ data system you desire.
Customize Inlet Systems, Detectors, and Accessories to Suit Your Specifi c and Unique Requirements.
From the list below, follow the basic instructions to confi gure your custom GC. On either chassis, you can order as many as four detectors. On the Model 310 chassis, you are limited to one sample inlet system;
on the Model 8610C you may order as many as fi ve.
If you need a gas sampling valve, you must order a Model 8610C. If you have any questions, contact our Technical Support group.
How to Build a Custom GC:
1. Choose the chassis you will need with the appropriate channels. (page 447)
2. Choose detectors (as many as 4). (page 448) 3. Choose inlet system (as many as 5 for 8610C, 1
for 310). (page 448)
4. Choose optional accessories. (page 449)

SRI Inlet Systems
Every SRI GC is equipped with an unheated on- column inlet system. On a Model 310 chassis, you can replace that with any one of the other four inlet systems available – headspace, split/splitless, purge & trap, and flash. On a Model 8610C chassis, you can mount any of the inlet systems to a total of five.
On-Column Inlet Systems
Suitable for 0.53mm capillary and 1/8" packed columns. Includes EPC carrier gas controller & molecular sieve filter.

Gas Generators – Hydrogen
Hydrogen Generators
To improve safety in your laboratory consider replacing hydrogen cylinders with gas generators.
Not only is it a safe move but a long-term fi nancially benefi cial decision. Most gas generators have a fi nancial payback of a year to a year in a half with an expected life of over fi ve years.
To choose hydrogen generators, base your choice on price, desired options, and the time servicing the units.
The features table below shows the options available with the different manufacturer models.
Auto-Water-Fill – Units with this feature sense when they have low water and open a valve allowing water to be added to the unit. The deionized water source is a separate unit and not included with this option.
Built-in Purifi cation – Gas generators generally have some form of built-in purifi cation. Desiccant purifi ers are commonly used. They have to be changed depending on the unit and fl ow. The second option is a built-in palladium purifi er. These electrical purifi ers work for years with no service needs but add cost to purchase.
The newest option is adsorbent purifi ers that regenerate themselves. They are lower cost than palladium purifi ers and are not as expensive to replace.
Cascading Units – Cascading units involves
connection of multiple generators to a common hydrogen line. Without this option each unit is separately plumbed.

Flow and Pressure – The units offered all come with different fl ow capabilities and available pressures. Pick the fl ow and pressures needed for your laboratory.
Purity of Gas – Purity requirements are application dependent. The highest purity needed is for carrier gas.
Some units would need oxygen purifi ers to meet carrier gas specifi cations.
Quality of water –The better the quality of water the longer the cell life of the unit. Generators use either distilled, deionized or NaOH/water mixtures. The frequency of adding water is dependent on the fl ow rate of the unit.
Remote Control – This option allows for the remote monitoring and operation of the units by the use of a hand held controller or by connection to a lab computer.
Safety Shut Down – All hydrogen generators incorporate safety shut down features. If a gas line or column breaks only a few hundred cc of hydrogen will escape. This is not enough hydrogen to cause a fi re or explosion.
Size – The most important dimension is width since bench space is hard to fi nd in most labs. Hydrogen generators are not stackable.
* RC = Remote Control ** CF = Cascading Flow

The auto-water-fill function found on many hydrogen generators requires a pressurized source of DI water. The DI water system allows for continuous operation of the hydrogen generators with auto-water-fill capabilities.
Water is continuously recirculated via a pump through a DI cartridge and the water quality monitored.
The smaller model H-01-C Type 2 DI System is wall mountable and provides up to 4 Liters of purified water in 24 hour. The Model H40-RO+DI System incorporates a reverse osmosis pretreatment system which can provide more than 25 gallons per day of purified water. The water is stored in a 4 gallons storage tank that sits on top of the cabinet.

Hydrogen Generators
How do You Determine What Model You Need?
Table 2 shows a break down of the hydrogen gas generators by models and flow. Column (1) shows the use of hydrogen used only as a fuel gas for FID detectors. Column (2) shows the use of hydrogen to supply a detector, as a carrier gas for a GC capillary column and allows for one FID detector, septum purge, split venting, and the column flow.
Between columns 1 and 2 are listed the models for the manufacturers we handle.
Going across the table you will find one or more models of hydrogen generator that will meet your flow needs. If your flow need exceeds the flows shown in this table you will need to use more than one hydrogen generator.
After determining what models meet your flow needs, then go to the specifications table to determine the best model based on the features you desire. Then go to page 453 for part numbers and price comparisons.
