Electrochemical Corrosion Behaviors of the Amorphous Zr 65 Al 8 Ni 5 Cu 22 Alloy
H. G. Kim ∗
Department of Physics Education, Chosun University, Gwangju 501-759 (Received 13 October 2009, in final form 1 January 2010)
This study was undertaken to measure the electrochemical corrosion of an amorphous Zr
65Al
8Ni
5Cu
22(at.%) alloy ribbon under various conditions, including 70-mM H
2SO
4, 0.4-mM HCl solutions, various values of the pH, and various immersion times. The HCl solution produced more corrosion than the H
2SO
4solution, and the highest value of I
corrwas measured in the H
2SO
4solution at 45
◦C. The R
pwas inversely proportional to the corrosion rate, increasing with increasing temperature. While pH=9 was not as sensitive as other pH, pH=5 was more sensitive than other pH for amorphous Zr
65Al
8Ni
5Cu
22(at.%) alloy. The change in the mass of the H
2SO
4solution with immersion time after 200 h was greater than for the HCl solution.
