The principal aim of the Korean Journal of Radiology (KJR) is to produce and propagate knowledge on radio- logic imaging and the related sciences. Since the intro- duction of the full text online version of the KJR, the number of people accessing the KJR online at www.kjronline.org has progressively increased. Over the recent several years, the number of submissions to the KJR has also risen substantially and we are keenly aware of our responsibility to ensure that authors have maximum accessibility of the KJR. In order to attract the best submissions from potential authors, a journal should offer a fair and rapid review process to ensure that the published papers are easily and widely accessi- ble. Therefore, we are pleased to inform authors and re- viewers of the new online submission and review sys- tem at the KJR.

The online process provides an entirely secure portal and thus, it streamlines the review process to the benefit of both the authors and the reviewers. Authors are no longer required to mail hard copies of their manuscripts and they are able to check the status of their submis- sions at any time and from any computer or handheld device with Web access. An automated e-mail system provides both the authors and reviewers with periodic

updates on submissions and the review process for spe- cific papers. The reviewers can quickly access manu- scripts online and accept or decline the opportunity to review a specific submission. Updating the contact in- formation and areas of expertise will be entirely auto- mated and this will help ensure that papers are re- viewed by the appropriate experts.

The website is scheduled to officially open in September 2005 for new submissions to the KJR. From this date onward, we will be encouraging all authors to submit their manuscript electronically. For the foresee- able future, however, we will continue to accept manu- scripts on paper.

We have tried to make our electronic-submission process convenient and easy to use, and we have care- fully tested the new system for the electronic submis- sion of manuscripts. It has performed well, but the au- thors may find areas that can be made simpler or more user-friendly. We welcome any and all comments and suggestions on the new system. Send them by any means you like, but the easiest way is sending an e-mail note to [email protected]. To submit a manuscript, authors should go to http://esubmit.kjronline.org.
