Abstract
Classic fenton reaction using ferrous ion and hydrogen peroxide is one of the most efficient kinds of fenton reactions. However the oxidative power of fenton reactions in such cases is greatly reduced in higher pH range (above pH 5) due to the production of ferrous and ferric hydroxides. The fenton-like reactions which uses iron metal can overcome the problem of generation of iron sludge, but the iron ion corroded on the surface of iron particle produces iron sludge. The present study focuses on finding out the optimum dosage of hydrogen peroxide in zero-valent ions (ZVI) and magnetite mixed system for the removal of methyl orange from the effluent of dying industry. The research also emphasizes on reduction of iron sludge and extending the life span of ZVI.
