Domestic Affairs Grilling of the Prime Minister

MP Shuaib Al-Muaizri grilled His Excellency the Prime Minister, Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak regarding failure of the state’s ministries and its departments in managing crises after the seasonal heavy rainfalls and lack of preparations.

Speaker of the National Assembly, Marzouq Al-Ghanem declared yesterday scheduling the grilling report for the session of 27 November, and he indicated that it might be discussed in today’s session.

As for discussion of the grilling, informed sources affirmed that there is a team of the MPs would like fast resignation of the cabinet in order to hold the prime minister accountable, however, there is another team, who seeks stability of the relation between the executive and legislative authorities, while holding low-performers accountable. The government team would like to delay grilling two weeks to give time to resume the procedures of paying damages to harmed people and to see the results of investigations. Al-Qabas (P.1)

“You Have All Powers”: Al-Roumi to Fact-Finding Commission

Informed sources revealed that Minister of Municipality, Hossam Al-Roumi asked members of fact-finding commission to hold continuous meetings till they finish their report regarding the rain crisis.

Sources told Al-Qabas newspaper that Al-Roumi told members of the Commission during his meeting with them yesterday that they have all the powers to meet current and retired officials at the MPW and the Public Authority for Roads and Transportation, and also in any other authority related to the crisis.

Sources told that the Committee is currently studying setting a roadmap, and soon it shall summon officials. Its meetings and field tours shall be on a daily basis till termination of its tasks – Al-Qabas (P.1)

Al-Muaiziri Submits “Rain Grilling”

MP Al-Muaizri said in his grill portfolio, “Friday rains revealed undebatable facts, like the clear deficiencies of performance of H.E the Prime Minister in undertaking his tasks in supervising and monitoring performance of ministries and departments, and checking their readiness at times of crises or disasters”. This is in addition to absence of the public policy of the government, leading to poor performance of its various sectors.

“Let the Kuwaiti people know procedures undertaken by the government bodies and departments in handling the rains’ crisis by means of discussing the issue of accountability in a public session”, said Al-Muaiziri to the Prime Minister and PMs in a press statement that is held upon submitting the grilling.

affirmed that this grilling “the only one that shouldn’t be debated, however, it should be subject to direct votes”.

Al-Mutair declared yesterday that “grilling of Al-Muaiziri was discussed directly with evidence in front of citizens. It is a grilling of the attitudes and consciences of MPs, and citizens have to hold their MPs accountable”.

On his part, MP. Dr. Adel Al-Damkhi affirmed that “the issue of rains requires resigning of all the cabinet, and that any grill on this issue is needed”. This is also supported by MP Abdul Wahab Al-Babtain, who reaffirmed his previous statement that the cabinet has to resign immediately, remarking that due to its mismanagement of the crisis, it contributed to damaging people’s properties, and therefore, it doesn’t deserve to continue. Kuwait Parliament Speaker: Grilling Motion against Premier in Agenda of Nov. 27 Session

Motion interpellation against His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah has been included in agenda of the parliamentary session due on November 27, National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim announced on Monday.

The grilling motion was submitted to the NA chairmanship earlier by MP Shuaib Al- Muwaizri.

Asked by reporters whether the motion might be examined at tomorrow's session, Al-Ghanim said, "This is possible in an emergency status and consent of the party to be grilled, with adherence to measures stipulated in Article 135 of the National Assembly by-law." However, it will remain in agenda of the November 27 session if the emergency status request has not been forwarded, he has affirmed. KUNA \

Technical Teams to Estimate Damage at Sabah Al-Ahmad’s City’s City –Min. Bushehri State Minister for Housing and Services Jenan Bushehri announced Monday forming several technical teams to estimate damage in infrastructure of Sabah Al-Ahmad's City due to the recent flash floods and heavy rains.

In a press statement, Minister Bushehri said the teams will inspect all the district sectors to determine the damage caused by the downpours, in addition to inspecting the work performed by companies with contracts with the ministry and present a report in one week.

The ministry has been working closely with the Ministry of Public Works to determine all causes of the damage to file a report to the fact finding committee, formed by Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Hussam Al-Roumi.

Minister Bushehri affirmed giving the fact finding committee all the support needed to find any kind of shortcoming, pointing out that any defaulting civil servant would be held accountable.

There could not be any complacency in the rights of citizens, and endangering their lives due to lack of competence by the companies that built the district infrastructure, she warns.

She has thanked all government institutions that have been working round the clock in the last few days to repair the damage. KUNA

“ We Hope Success of Scientific Research to Eliminate Obstacles in the Face of Getting Biofuel from Algae : Sameera Omar

GM of Kuwait Institute for Scientific Researches, Dr. Sameera Al-Sayed Omar Al-Haja affirmed the need to maintain and make sustainable use of the biological resources of Kuwait as well as other resources. This is intended to resume sustainable economic development, which is closely associated with “Kuwait Vision 2035”.

Al-Rashidi Called Electricity Sectors to Be Ready for Tomorrow’s Rains

Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water, engineer, Bakheet Al-Rashidi called all those working at the various sectors of the ministry to be ready to face the expected heavy rain fall today (Wednesday), which has been warned by competent authorities.

Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Monday held an acquaintance meeting with members of the Kuwaiti-Japanese Businessmen Committee along with the Kuwaiti delegation that would partake in the commission annual meeting, scheduled in Tokyo on November 20.

The chamber said in a statement that the meeting was headed by the committee chair and board member, Tareq Al-Mutawa', and included representatives of the Central Bank of Kuwait, Secretariat General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, the Kuwait Authority for Partnership Projects and the Kuwaiti Direct Investment Promotion Authority.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Public Authority for Housing Welfare, the National Fund for Small and Medium Enterprise Development, the Ministry of Electricity and Water, the apparatus for developing Al-Harir (Silk) City, Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, Boursa Kuwait, Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Science and the unions of investment, banks and industries.

The Kuwaiti side is briefing the Japanese about economic axis of the full-scale development strategy, New Kuwait 2035, incentives for luring direct enterprise, the stock exchange and key projects of partnership between the private and public sectors.

The Kuwaiti delegation is due to present, during the forthcoming meeting in Tokyo, offers for investments in energy, oil, power, smart cities, developing the islands, establishing Al-Harir City and support for medium and small enterprises, the chamber statement added.

They will also visit Tokyo stock exchange and a smart city, named Kashiwa-no-ha.

The joint commission drew up a comprehensive study about the Kuwaiti environmental protection policy in 2004, helped in incorporating the environmental educational program,

"Kids Iso 14,000" in the elementary teaching curriculum and resolving some issues concerning offset facing Japanese companies. KUNA

First Deputy of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad received a message from the Crown Prince of the friendly UK, Prince Charles to ensure that his health condition is good, and he wished him good health to resume his service to his nation, and to achieve the aspirations of Kuwaiti people.

Kuwait, French Army Forces Launch Joint Drills

The Kuwaiti Army has begun drills code-named "Pearl of the West" with live ammunition in cooperation with the French Armed Forces, the Ministry of Defense said on Monday.

The army regularly conducts the joint war-games with the French forces to uplift the personnel combat readiness.
