실험목적 (Objectives)
The study investigated enhancement of cognitive function by adding hot steamed
Codonopsis lanceolata.
재료 및 방법 (Materials and Methods)
Both fresh Codonopsis lanceolata (FC) and hot steamed Codonopsis lanceolata (SC) were extracted by water at 100 ℃for 24 h to compare the growth of rat nerve cell, PC12 for screening the improvement of cognitive function.
실험결과 (Results)
Growth of PC12 cells was enhanced up to 5×102 cells/mL in adding 60 μg/mL of SC for 5 days cultivation while 2.5×104 cells/mL FC extracts, compare to 1.2×104 cells/mL of the control. Moreover, the numbers of neurite bearing cell was increased up to 20-25%, compare to the case of adding FC extracts. It was found that the C. lanceolata can enhance both the proliferation and differentiationof nerve cell, result in enhancing the cognitive function. The steaming process can alone greatly help to improve its activities by extracting of large amounts of biologically active compounds such as compound of lancemaside.
