[ABSTRACT]

Psycho-social Factors Influencing Influenza Vaccination Intention in

Early Childhood Teachers

Hye Jeong Hwang Graduate School of Public Health Ajou University

(Advisor: Prof. Eun-Hyun Lee, R.N., Ph.D.)

This study is a correlation analysis study to identify the psycho-social influencing factors on the intent of the influenza vaccination in early childhood teachers.

The survey was conducted for childhood teachers working in approved private and public childhood facilities taking care of children from six months to five years of age located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do Province on the knowledge of influenza vaccination, attitude toward the behavior, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, perceived benefits and perceived barriers including sociodemographic characteristics. A total of 125 copies of data were used for the study, and SPSS / WIN 23.0 program was used for data analysis.

In the correlation analysis of age, working experience, knowledge of influenza vaccination, attitude toward the behavior, subjective norms, perceived behavior control, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers had a statistically significant positive correlation with perceived benefits, behavior control, attitude toward behavior, subjective norms, and knowledge on the intent of the influenza vaccination, and the age, work experience, and perceived barriers were not statistically significant.

Ultimately, in order to identify factors influencing the influenza vaccination intention, we conducted a hierarchical multiple regression analysis after controlling the last year’s influenza vaccination status. As a result, perceived benefits, attitude toward behavior, and behavioral control, showed the factors influencing the influenza vaccination intention and explained 25.6% (R² = .256) of dispersion of influenza vaccination intention. Among them, past status of the influenza vaccination was the most predictive factor for the influenza vaccination intention, and showed that the influenza vaccination intention was significantly influenced by the order of behavior control, perceived benefits, and attitude toward behavior.

Therefore, in order to increase the influenza vaccination intention and immunization rate of early childhood teachers in the future, we should consider being concurrent with education or programs about the benefits
