Message from the President

As the national flagship university representing Gyeongsangnam-do, Gyeongsang National University (GNU) is keeping pace with the world. GNU proudly placed No. 1 among national universities in terms of the top 10% in cited papers in the Leiden Ranking 2014, specifically ranking first among national universities in mathematics, computer science and engineering.

In addition, GNU ranked No. 15 in Korea and No. 1 in Busan, Ulsan, and the Gyeongnam area in the World University Ranking 2014 by the Center for World University Ranking, Saudi Arabia. GNU is powering upwards as a world-class educational institution despite being located in a small city (Jinju).

Any of GNU’s self-motivated students can become competent professionals, particularly in the areas of life science, aerospace & mechanical systems, and nano & advanced materials.

Our highly-skilled professors push us onward, continuing to improve our educational programs and developing creativity and potential in their students. Financial support is readily available to our students through various university and external scholarships.

In addition, GNU continues to enhance its educational and research competitiveness through national project awards, including the University for Critical Korea Project, the Local University Advancement Project, the Leader in Industrial-Academic Cooperation (LINC) Project (2nd stage), the Korean Study Research Project, the Core Technology Innovation &

Industry Collaboration Center, the National University Innovation Project, the Local (Traditional) Industry Development Project, the Core Industry Professional Education Project, and the Human Resources Education Project for Energy Fields, among others. We are also strengthening our cooperative partnerships with 11 public corporations moving to Jinju Inno- City, the Aviation Industrial Complex in Jinju and Sacheon, the Machinery Industrial Complex in Changwon, and national industrial complexes in Yeosu and Suncheon towards creating more job opportunities for our students.

Through these efforts, GNU aims to develop its students into pioneering professionals who model civility, wisdom and learning aptitude. In line with this objective, we are cultivating quality human resources ready to challenge the world with relationship-building personalities and a thirst for knowledge and truth, and opening a pathway to a brighter world. To quote GNU’s school poem, knock on our door to seek an answer to ‘Why am I here on earth and how do I want to be remembered?’
