Announcement to the A/E/C/O Community
IFD Library/IDM/IFC Workshop
The buildingSMARTAlliance, buildingSMARTNorway, the Construction Specifications Institute and the International Code Council invite you to an important Workshop on the core technologies of Interoperability.
The Workshop scheduled for April 6th – 9th will take place at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Old Town
Alexandria, Virginia (adjacent to Metro). International experts in the development and implementation of the latest open standard-based technologies to achieve effective information exchange between model-based systems will lead the workshop to achieve the following goals:
Provide a comprehensive overview of the core buildingSMART technologies for achieving open system interoperability:
o International Framework for Dictionaries Library (IFD Library) – shared terminology library system
o Information Delivery Manual (IDM) and Model View Definition (MVD) – structured process mapping methodology
o Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) – digital relationship model
Interoperability through Standards, courtesy Janne Aas-Jakobsen, Jotne EPM Technology AS
Update the latest status of development efforts for processes and applications that utilize these technologies in the U.S. and Europe
Demonstrate their use on projects underway currently in the U.S. and Europe
Provide guidance for implementing these technologies on buildingSMART projects forming in the U.S. and Europe including the National Building Information Model Standard (NBIMS)
Convene a forum to discuss open issues associated with the implementation of these technologies to guide their use and on-going development that will ensure collaboration and minimization of duplication in areas of information exchange between model-based systems
The Workshop will bring together an impressive team of international experts and project proponents to present and lead discussions related to each core technology including:
For IFD – Aleksander Bjaaland, Lars Bjorkhaug and Jacob Mehus (buildingSMARTNorway);
Roger Grant (CSI); Maarten VanHezik (STABU)
For IDM/MVD – Dianne Davis (NBIMS, buildingSMARTAlliance); Richard See (buildingSMARTalliance), Lars Christensen (buildingSMARTNorway)
For IFC – Jeffrey Wix and Nicholas Nisbet (AEC3 and BuildingSMARTInternational)
For BuildingSMART – Per Jaeger, Jons Sjogren (BuildingSMARTNorway); Deke Smith (buildingSMARTalliance)
For key projects – David Connover (ICC SMARTCodes), Alan Edgar and William East (NBIMS), Others (TBD)
To complement the knowledge and experience of these experts, we are seeking industry participation from individuals and organizations that are working on or beginning to work on model-based information exchange projects independently or under the buildingSMARTalliance with the goal of connecting to the IFC model and achieving Interoperability through the use of open international standards.
