• Semantic priming 설명에 적합

◎ 문장 처리 (Sentence Processing)

‣ Main Question: How listeners rapidly decipher the structure of sentences and gain access to the meaning of the sentence as a whole

‣ 어려움:

• Rapid rate and indetermination

• Ambiguity

- Local (syntactic) ambiguity: temporarily occurs (due to top-down processing)

• non-syntactic information as well as syntactic analyses

• Experimental support: Reading time is faster for The evidence examined by

the lawer was useless than for The witness examined by the lawer was useless.

※ Interactive model of language processing과 유사 - 통사-의미 interaction 강조

- bottom-up 및 top-down이 모두 중요

- lexical processor, syntactic processor, semantic processor, general knowledge, phonology 등과 Central Interpreter와의 상호작용

‣ interactive model을 지지하는 연구: top-down processing이 중요

• Shadowing (=Echoing): 200ms of the onset에서 따라하기 가능

• Gating: 문맥이 주어졌을 때, 175-200ms of the onset에서 식별 가능

• 응답변인 2: timed (ASAP 응답) vs. non-timed (여유있게 답변)

• 결과: 일정한 패턴 존재 → Gating이 on-line processing 연구에 적절

▸ 언어 처리에서 기억의 역할 1: Martin (1987)

• 질문: Who had black hair, the man or the woman?

- I (SS): The woman that had black hair pushed the man.

- II (SS): The woman that pushed the man had black hair.

- III (SS): The woman that had black hair was pushed by the man.

- IV (SS): The woman that was pushed by the man had black hair.

- V (SO): The woman that the man pushed had black hair.

• 대상: 뇌손상을 입은 memory-deficit 환자들 (e.g. short-term memory span = 2 전후)

• 결과: 예외적인 몇몇 사례를 제외하면, Martin 및 대부분의 후속연구에 서 기억 손상이 언어 처리에 영향을 주지 않는다고 보고됨

▸ 언어 처리에서 기억의 역할 2: Waters & Caplan (1996)

• 건강한 사람들을 memory span에 따라 분류해서 실험 진행

• 기억력이 좋으면 문장 처리에 도움이 된다는 가설을 평가

• 결과: 기억력에 따른 문장 처리 효과 없음

‣ Chomsky: 문법의 적합성/타당성 (levels of adequacy)

• 관찰적 타당성 (observational adequacy)

(적절한 예측: Can the boy speak English?) ☞ 주어, 조동사, 위치 바꿈 등을 명시적으로 정의해야 함!

• Cross-sectional vs. Longitudinal

• 실험 기법

- HASP (High Amplitude Sucking Paradigm): 3개월 미만 아동에게 적 용 가능; categorical perception, habituation 등을 연구

- Conditioned Head-Turn Procedure: 6-18개월 아동에게 적용 가능;

sound change와 좌우측 애니메이션 연결 → sound change에 따라는 아동의 anticipation & head-turn response

- Picture-Cued Comprehension Test: 관계절, 수동태 연구 등에 적절

‣ “현대언어학의 이념, 심리학과 언어학의 관계, 심리언어학의 목표, 방법론, 음성처리, 단어의 의미, 자료의 통계적 분석, 점화실험, CHILDES, 언어 습득” 등을 공부했습니다.
