ABSTRACT. Organic electroluminescent devices (OELD) with multilayer structures have been studied actively for the application to a flat-panel display. Metal-chelate complexes have been intensively investigated m an emitting layer and recognized to have excellent electroluminescence (EL) properties. In this study, we synthesized several metal-chelate complexes which display blue emission. The complexes prepmed herein are beryllium and zinc complexes coordinated by quinaldate or 8-quinolinecarboxylate. These complexes were characterized by FT-IR, MWFAB, ‘H-NMR, UV-vis and photolurninescence (PL). More importantly, the elec- trochemical gap (Eg), electron affinity and ionization potential (1P) of these complex films were inves- tigated. Data from cyclic vokamrnetry(CV) were compared with the bandgap obtained from UV-vis and discussed. Further studies on the EL of these new materials are now in progress.——
