Division of Science Education, Daegu University, Gyeongsan 712-714 (Received 5 November 2010 : revised 10 December 2010 : accepted 17 January 2011)
The purpose of this study was to develop a strategy for a class in which students will develop scientific interest and scientific concepts through the use of science toys. Rubber forced wheels with the same mass, but different contact areas were developed to investigate friction phenomena. To learn about frictional force concepts, the students in the experimental group (E-group) used the science toys developed in this study, and the students in the comparision group (C-group) used a spring scale and a wood block. From an analysis of student responses, the scientific interest and the formation of the friction concept were higher in the E-group then in the C-group.
