➊① On May 27, 2011, 297 books of Uigwe, a collection of royal books the French army took in 1866, came back to Korea.
① 2011년 5월 27일, 프랑스 군이 1866년에 가져간 왕실 서적의 소장품인, 297권의 의궤가 한국으로 돌아왔다.
② The person behind this return is Dr. Park Byeong-seon, a historian who spent her whole life searching for Korean national treasures abroad.
② 이 반환 뒤에 있는 사람은 해외의 한국의 국보들을 찾는데 그의 평생을 보낸 역사가인, 박병선 박사이다.
Reporter: ➋③ Can you tell me how you became interested in Uigwe?
③ 제게 당신이 어떻게 의궤에 대해 관심을 갖게 되었는지 말씀해 주시겠습니까?
Dr. Park: ➌④ I studied history in college.
④ 저는 대학에서 역사를 공부했습니다.
⑤ I went to France to continue my studies in 1955.
⑤ 저는 1955년에 제 연구를 계속하기 위해 프랑스로 갔습니다.
⑥ As you know, the French army took many of our national treasures in 1866.

Dr. Park : ➋③ As soon as I became a researcher at the National Library in 1967, I began to look for Uigwe.

⑤ I think I looked at more than 30 million books.
⑤ 저는 제가 3천만권이 넘는 책을 보았다고 생각합니다.
Reporter: ➌⑥ I’m sure you were very excited when you found the books.
⑥ 저는 당신이 그 책들을 발견하셨을 때 매우 흥분하셨으리라 확신합니다.
Dr. Park: ➍⑦ Yes, I was, but more difficulties were waiting for me.
⑦ 네, 그랬습니다, 하지만 더 많은 어려움들이 저를 기다리고 있었습니다.
⑧ I thought that the books should be returned to Korea, but my bosses at the library didn’t like that idea.

⑨ They even thought that I was a Korean spy and fired me.

Dr. Park : ➏⑯ Yes. In 1992, the Korean government asked the French government for its return and, finally, the 297 books are here now.
