Effects of Anodization Time and Temperature on the Pore Arrangement of Porous Anodic Alumina Anodized in Sulfuric Acid

We investigated the effects of the anodizing time and temperature on the pore arrangement in porous anodic alumina (PAA) fabricated in 6 M sulfuric acid under a constant voltage by using the conventional two-step anodization method. The pore arrangement depended on the anodizing time and temperature. An ordered pore arrangement composed of regularly arranged hexagons with six pores having 15-nm diameter was obtained at a voltage of 18 V. We found that the best anodizing time and temperature to get a well-ordered pore arrangement in the anodized PAAs were 70 min and 24
◦C, respectively. The pore arrangement was analyzed by using the fast Fourier transformation (FFT) obtained from pore arrangement images of the PAAs. In addition, we found that the current density at the best conditions was larger than that at other conditions. These results indicate that the anodization time and temperature play important roles in the formation of the pore structure in PAAs.
