동남아시아 말레이반도 남단과 보르네오 섬 일부에 걸쳐 있는 입헌군주제 국가이다 . 1786 년부터 영국의 지배 를 받기 시작해 1957 년 싱가포르를 제외한 말레이반도 11 개 주가 통합하여 말라야 연방으로 독립하였고 , 1963년 싱가포르 , 사바 , 사라와크를 합쳐 말레이시아가 되었다가 2 년 후 싱가포르가 탈퇴 , 독립하여 현재 에 이른다 .
