IT Trade Figures for October 2010
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy has released its IT trade figures for the month of October. Trade in the information technology sector reached a record high of $7.2 billion. Robust outbound shipments of semiconductors and personal computers drove overall IT exports up 17.4 percent from a year ago to
$14.11 billion.
A strong showing in smartphones put growth rates on an upward path in the area of mobile phones. Display panel exports remained on the rise, albeit at a slower rate. Exports to key trading partners increased. Notably, outbound shipments to the United States surged more than 40 percent, mainly due to brisk exports of smartphones.

IT imports rose 22 percent to $6.91 billion. Inbound shipments of mobile phones jumped 93.3 percent to $490 million, and imports of computers and related devices climbed 26.3 percent to $800 million.
Meanwhile, over the first 10 months of 2010, IT exports reached $127.4 billion, surpassing total exports for all of 2009 ($120.9 billion). The trade balance for the first 10 months of 2010 hit a record high, standing at $65.6 billion.
