Toyota Production system
1. Total Framework of the TPS – Its Goals-Means Relationship
a. producing defective items b. overproduction
c. unnecessary stocks on hand d. transportation
e. inefficient processing f. unnecessary motions g. time on hand - waiting
2. 작업자의 능력을 최대한 발휘
Total Framework of TPS
v Primary Goal : Cost Reduction (Fig. 1.1)
v Sub-goals : Quantity Control Quality Assurance
Respect for Humanity
v Concept :
1. Just-in-time: Supply to each process what is needed when it is needed and in the quantity it is needed
2. Autonomation (Autonomous defeats control)
Total Framework of TPS
v System/Method : Concept를 realize 시키기 위한 제도/방법
1. Kanban System
2. Prod. Smoothing method 3. Setup 시간 단축
4. Operation 의 standardization
5. M/C layout and multi-function worker 6. QC circle 과 제안제도
7. Visual control system 8. Functional management
MRP와 TPS의 차이
1. Operation
• MRP operates in a centralized fashion.
All information is kept in a central database, maintained and updated by a computer.
• MRP is a push system.
Order releases are based on future demand or requirement.
• User information is stored centrally. Most detailed information is scattered across the factory floor and not available real time in a centralized system.
• TPS is a pull system.
a
b
MRP와 TPS의 차이
2. Time Scale
a. MRP sets production schedules with discrete time buckets that are typically a week long. Schedules are then updated once a week in a revolving fashion.
b. TPS approaches continuous time control much closer, with time lags measured in hours and minutes.
MRP와 TPS의 차이
3. Dealing with changes and uncertainty
a. With MRP, planners tend to react to temporary bottlenecks and
uncertainty by increasing the planned lead time, which creates queues of WIP and further inflates lead time. With more sophisticated systems, by adjusting MPS and/or varying the lead time, the work load can be
smoothed out. However, this can be done only by time buckets and additional provisions are needed for time spans of less than the bucket length. (MES)
b. With TSP, the emphasis is on smoothing out the workload overtime in all time scales varying in length from minutes up to several months and on eliminating bottlenecks by a balanced deployment of the work force.
MRP와 TPS의 차이
4. The way each system tends to evolve
a. In MRP systems the tendency is to try to solve problems by modifying or expanding the MRP system. This has the effect of reducing the urgency of tackling the real underlying problems, and improving the capabilities of the production system. Lead times are considered fixed, so there is no need to try to reduce them.
b. In TPS systems, an alert management has a better chance of focusing attention on process and other improvements, away from inventory increases.
