The Ministry of Public Works of Chile –MOP- announced the promotion of 12 new initiatives to award projects through public bid mechanism. These initiatives involve investments for over US$3,038 million. Calls for proposals would be done from March to Augusto, 2017, while reception of projects and offers would conclude on January, 2018. Eduardo Abedrapo, coordinator of the Division of Concessions at MOP sustains that “the Government intends to address market expectations” considering a long-term perspective of the Chile´s infrastructure development.
Authorities promote plans toward 20 to 30 years term.

Ministry of Public Works announces public bids to award projects for US$ 3,000 million in 2017
Asian Companies start actions to participate in public bids to construct dams
The Ministry of Public Works of Chile is promoting the construction of five dams located in the IV and V regions of Chile (center of the country). Certain Asian companies already have shown interests, including the Chinese Three Gorges Corporation (owner of the biggest hydropower generation dam in the world with 22,500 MW) and the Korean Hyundai. The names of the projects to be awarded are: Catemu, Los Angeles, Los Aromos y Las Palmas in Valparaiso and Las Trancas in Coquimbo.
The total amount of investment required by these projects reaches US$1,100 million.

Two consulting firms –Adecco and Human Capital Leadership Institute- presented a study in which Chile ranks 34 out of 109 evaluated countries, in terms of human talent competitiveness.
Although worldwide Chile occupies such position, in the Latin American region, it is the leader with 52.587 points. Other nations from Latin America and the Caribbean include Barbados (39) Costa Rica (40) Uruguay (47) and Colombia (62). The ranking considers 6 variables related to the country’s ability to enable, attract, grow, retain and develop people with medium- high level skills.

The Chilean National Commission of Energy –CNE- is considering the operation of the main transmission line -Cardones-Polpaico by sections as a mechanism to solve the registered stalemate. The building of this interconnecting transmission line has shown delays;
therefore several generation projects expressed concerns for potential financial losses. The line will measure 1,000 km in two 500KV, and is expected to be completed by January 2018, however the firm responsible for the line has anticipated delays due to complications in obtaining construction permissions.

Government of Chile considers the operation of Cardones- Polpaico transmission line by sections
On January 17th, President Michelle Bachelet signed and sent to the legislative organism of Chile a bill by which a new Ministry is created. After an intense national debate, Chile has created the Ministry of Science and Technology. This institution will be in charge of providing advice to the president for the design, coordination, implementation and evaluation of public policies and programs directed to strengthening science and technology in the country. It is expected that after the bill is approved, a fully functioning Ministry would come to life in September, 2017.

the Ministry of Science and Technology National Electric Coordinator of Chile proposes Works for US$ 600 million
The National Electric Coordinator of Chile (a newly created institution, working since January, 2017) has proposed works for over US$600 million. In its first report this organism highlighted the need to build a transmission line of 500kV to connect with Conception (a city located 514 km south of Santiago). The study forecasts the demand of energy for the coming 20 years. Need for other energy infrastructure projects are also included in the report.
