Background and Purpose: Sufficient sleep time and quality of sleep are essential for recovery, but sleep disorders have become a common behavior in modern society. Inadequate sleep time and low sleep quality have been studied as independent risk factors for cardiovascular disease, but studies on the complexity of sleeping time, difficulty in sleeping initiation, and accompanying sleeping disorders have yet to be conducted. In this study, we aimed to investigate the independent association of cardiovascular disease in healthy Korean middle-aged adults by evaluating the sleeping time, the difficulty of sleep

2013 to 2017 as part of a prospective cohort study of the Center for Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Causes (CMERC). Logistic regression analysis was performed to determine the independent association between sleep time and the difficulty of sleep initiation and the risk of obstructive sleep apnea and carotid intima-media thickness. Confusion variables were adjusted for age, gender, body mass index, smoking status, drinking status, and menopause.

Result: As a result of the correlation between the variables affecting sleep and the carotid IMT, Sleep time and carotid intima-media thickness were not significantly related to the thickness of carotid intima-media thickness. There was a significant association with the thickening of the carotid intima-media thickness when the chaotic parameters were not corrected in the group with high risk of obstructive sleep apnea, Obstructive sleep apnea The same results were obtained in men at high risk. The difficulty in falling asleep was significantly related to the subjects who experienced sleep induction disorder for more than one day of the week when they did not adjust the confusion variable(Odds Ratio (OR) 1.195, 95% CI 0.924, 1.546), No significant correlation was found after adjusting the confounding variables. However, there was no statistical significance in the comparison between male and female groups (Odds Ratio (OR) 1.458; 95%;

95% confidence interval, CI 1.047, 2.028).

Conclusion: Sleep time was not related to the intimal thickening of the carotid artery, In the high risk group of obstructive sleep apnea, there was a relation between carotid intima-media thickness thickening when the confusion parameter was not controlled in men and whole subjects, And the additional significance of the epidemiological study is needed because the significance of the control of confounding variables disappears. In the case of women who feel difficulty falling asleep more than once a week, the quality of sleep in adults is a potential risk factor for cerebrovascular disease because it is related to the thickening of the carotid intima-media thickness.
