“Have a good day, and please don’t forget to shut the windows before you leave for school!” said Mrs. Martin to Max, her son, rushing to catch the bus. Max was eating breakfast and finishing a homework assignment he had forgotten to do last night. Twenty minutes later, he looked up at the clock. If he didn’t hurry, he would miss his bus. Max pushed his homework and books into his backpack and ran out the door, forgetting what his mom had said. Max heard thunder and a howling wind during math class. He noticed the dark storm clouds and heavy rain. “Oh, no,” said Max. When he got back home, ______________________________.

In one study, researchers asked people who were working out at a local gym to predict how they would feel if they became lost while hiking and had to spend the night in the woods without food and water. Specifically, they were asked to predict whether their hunger or their thirst would be more unpleasant.

Some people made this prediction just after they had worked out on a treadmill, and some made this prediction before they worked out on a treadmill. The former group was called the thirsty group, and the latter the nonthirsty group. The results showed that 92 percent of the people in the thirsty group predicted that if they were lost in the woods, thirst would be more unpleasant than hunger. But only 61 percent of the people in the nonthirsty group made that prediction. Apparently, the thirsty people tried to answer the researcher’s question by imagining being lost in the woods without food and water and then asking themselves how they felt when they did so. But their brains enforced the Reality First Policy and insisted on reacting to the real workout rather than the imaginary hike.

Because these people didn’t know their brains were doing this, they confused their feelings and prefeelings.

Every book in a library is listed in the library’s catalog. Some library catalogs are drawers filled with file cards. Here is an example of a card from a card catalog:

The catalog helps you find books. Library catalogs list books by subjects, authors and titles. All of these listings are in alphabetical order. If you want to find a book about explorers and don’t know the title of the book exactly, you can look under E, the first letter of the subject in the catalog. If you know the name of the author, for example, Richard Williams, you can look in the card catalog under W, the first letter of his last name. To find a book titled Great Explorers, you can look under G, the first letter of the title, also.

 Librarian: May I help you?

Student : I’d like to find a book about dinosaurs. But I don’t know how to use the catalog.

Librarian: Then you can find it under D, the first letter of the subject. Do you know the author?

Student : Neal Newman.

Librarian: What is the title of the book?

Student :All about Dinosaurs.

Librarian: All right. There are two more ways to find the book.

One is (A)_____________________________________.

(B)____________________________________________.

Student : Thank you for helping me to find the book.

Librarian: My pleasure.

서술형문항 7

다음 그림에 대한 글을 읽고, 물음에 답하시오. [10점]

Learning the right way to hold your drumsticks is one of the most important aspects of drumming. There are three main types of stick grips used today. The most popular style is the Matched Grip in Picture 1. It allows for fast movement around the drum set. This grip is played (A) with your palms facing upward.

Every finger tip is lightly rested on the drumstick. Make sure you do not grip the stick too tightly. Another popular grip is called the Traditional Grip in Picture 2. With this, you hold the stick with your palms facing up, and it allows for a quick stroke.

But this grip can make it hard to move around the drum set quickly.

To achieve this grip, stick your first two fingers out, with your thumb sticking straight up. Then place your stick between your thumb and your other fingers. After the stick is in place, simply (B) close your top two fingers on the top of the stick. The stick should be loose in your hand. Finally, there is the French Grip.

This technique is not as popular, but is still used a lot. The French Grip uses your fingers to control your stick. Like in the Picture 3, you can (C) use your index finger and thumb to pinch the stick.

The stick should be very loose in the hand. You do not use your wrists as much, saving a lot of energy. It can be a great plus;

however, you may find it hard to get enough power in some of your strokes. *pinch: (두 손가락으로) 집다

서술형문항 8

다음 글을 읽고, 물음에 답하시오. [10점]

An eighty-year-old man was sitting on the sofa in his house along with his highly educated forty-five-year-old son. Suddenly a crow perched on their window. The father asked his son, “What is this?” The son replied “It is a crow.” After a few minutes, the father asked his son the second time, “What is this?” The son said,

“Father, I have just now told you ‘It’s a crow.’” After a little while, the old father asked his son one more time. At this time some expression of irritation was felt in the son’s tone when he said to his father. A little after, the father asked his son another time. This time the son shouted at his father, “Why do you keep asking me the same question, although I have told you, ‘IT IS A CROW.’”

A little later the father went to his room and came back with an old diary. On opening a page, he asked his son to read that page. “Today my little son aged three was sitting with me on the sofa, when a crow was sitting on the window. My son asked me twenty three times what it was, and I replied to him all twenty three times that it was a crow, hugging him lovingly.

I did not _________________________. I rather felt affection for my innocent child.”

While the little child asked him twenty three times “What is this?” the father had felt no irritation in replying to the same question all twenty three times. When today the father asked his son the same question just four times, the son felt irritated and annoyed. So, if your parents attain old age, speak to them a gracious word, and be kind to them. They have cared for you ever since you were a little child. They have always showered their selfless love on you.
