FOREIGN AFFAIRS, TRADE & UNIFICATION COMMITTEE DELEGATION VISITS NEW ZEALAND
A Korean delegation led by Mr Hong Joon Ahn, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs, Trade & Unification Committee of the National Assembly of Korea, visited New Zealand from 4th to 9th January. In Wellington, the delegation made a Parliament tour before Mr Ahn met his New Zealand counterpart Hon John Hayes, Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee, and Ms Melissa Lee a Member of Parliament, at the dinner hosted by Ambassador Mr Yongkyu Park at his residence. In Auckland, Mr Ahn paid tribute to the fallen New Zealand soldiers during the Korean War, at the Korean War Memorial Monument. Later, he also hosted a luncheon for Korean War veterans in Auckland.
Two Members of the National Assembly of Korea, Mr Byoung-gug Choung (Former Minister of Cultural, Sports and Tourism) and Mr Sang Ho Woo, visited New Zealand from 23rd to 26th January. In Wellington, the delegation had a meeting with Mr Chris Roberts, General Manager of Tourism New Zealand. The delegation was given a briefing on New Zealand’s successful tourism promotion strategy in cooperation with the film industry.
According to the Tourism New Zealand’s statistics, over 53,000 Koreans visited New Zealand in 2012, a 1.1%
increase in number from the previous year. They also visited Park Road Post, a world renowned film post production facility, and Weta Workshop, a Academy Awards winning workshop for film props and costume design, and they discussed ways to further promote cooperation between Korea and New Zealand in film area.
On 24th January, the delegation met Mr Graham Budd CEO of Destination Queenstown.

Ambassador Park hosted a dinner for the two visiting Members of the Korean National Assembly Mr Choung Byoung-gug (Former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and Mr Sang Ho Woo, at his residence in Wellington.
Ambassador Park also invited Ms Melissa Lee a New Zealand Member of Parliament, Mr Cameron Harland General Manager of Park Road Post, Mr Michael Stephens a lawyer with many years of experience in film industry, Ms Sue Thompson a filmmaker, and two Korean staff working at Weta Workshop and Weta Degital
On 17th January, Ambassador Mr Yongkyu Park visited the New Zealand Parliament and had a meeting with Mr Lindsay Tisch Assistant Speaker. They discussed about ways to further promote inter-parliamentary relations and cultural/people-to-people exchanges. They also discussed about the Korea’s recent presidential election result. Mr Tisch along with two other Members of Parliament, Mr Iain Lees-Galloway and Ms Denise Roche, are visiting Korea from 22nd and 26th January by the invitation of the Korean National Assembly.
