5월은 특별한 기념일이 많은 달이다. 5월 1일은 근로자의 날로 정식 공휴일은 아니지만, 대부분의 기업은 이날 근무를 하지 않는다. 5월 5일은 어린이날로 공휴일이다. 5월 5일이 주말인 경우에는 하루가 대체 휴일로 지정된다. 5월 8일은 어버이날이다. 자녀들이 부모님께 선물을 사 드리거나 식사 대접을 하며 가족과 함께 오붓한 시간을 보내는 날이다. 석 가탄신일도 공휴일이다. 음력으로 날짜가 정해지는데, 주로 5월에 있다.
