Vision and Goals

The Vision of the ‘u-KOREA Master Plan ’is to achieve an advanced Korea by realizing the world ’ s FIRST u-Society based on the world ’ s BEST u-Infrastructure.

Strategy

The plan provides advancement goals for five areas - government, land, economy, social environment, and individual life; and optimization goals for four engines - globalization, industrial infrastructure, social infrastructure, and technology development.

The ultimate goal of the ‘u-KOREA Master Plan’is to achieve a society where all people can benefit from a safer ubiquitous society (4U: Universal, Usable, Unisonous, Upgraded) through advancement of the five areas and optimization of the four engines.

Implementation Phases

- Establishment (2006~2010) : building of ubiquitous social infrastructure

- Stabilization(2011~2015) : universalizing ubiquitous services

Expected Benefits

Korea equipped with the world’s best quality infrastructure is advancing towards the era of information equity.

- As of June 2007, Korea’s Internet usage rate is 75.5% (users of age 6 and above), and the number of broadband Internet subscribers has reached 14. 44 million, indicating 90% of total households in Korea have access to broadband Internet.

- In 2006, the growth rate of IT industry, the biggest engine for Korea’s economic growth over the past several years, surpassed that of non-IT industry by 3.9 times, whose proportion in total GDP exceeded 16.2% for the first time in history.

- The number of terrestrial and satellite DMB subscribers is rapidly increasing since the commercial service launch for the first time in the world in 2005.
