Douglas DC-3 "Dakota" (Scale 1:72)
Building Instructions
Print all sheets on 160g card or thicker, and only on 90g paper where stipulated for Sheets 7 and 9.
Cut out or slit areas/lines coloured green, but only when requested.
Fuselage
1. Cut out parts [1] to [7]. Round all fuselage parts with a 1-3cm diameter rod. Form each part to a cylinder, and close/glue.
2. Glue all 4 parts together. Work from part [6], [5], [4], [3], [2] and finally [1]. NOTE: Part [4] only covers about one half of part [5], the upper part being covered by the cockpit [7].
3. Add the cockpit [7].
4. Cut out, round/close part [8], first closing the tab on the rear portion, and then the tab of the front portion.
5. Add fuselage tail [9].
Front wing
6. Cut out and fold the central part [10], the angle struts [11], the top struts and leading edges [12], and the wing supports [13].
7. Do not forget to glue the left and right outermost struts at 82° (not vertical). Use the template.
8. Glue the tab of [10]; insert the assembled and glued structure (dabbed with glue to fix to [10]).
9. Cut out the left wing [14] , the supports [15], and the 2 bars [16]. Fold, glue and fit.
10. Add the wing joint cover [17] to hide the join.
11. Repeat for the right wing.
12. On the leading edge of the central wing portion, where the engines will be placed, pierce 2 holes in the positions marked for the propeller shaft, using a cocktail stick.
13. Place the wing assembly on a flat surface. If the wings are correctly assembled, the wing tips should be 2cm above the surface.
14. Remove the cut-out on the underside of [6], and glue on the wing assembly using the 2 tabs provided.
Engines
15. Cut out, glue each of parts [18] to [21] to a cylinder, glue [22] onto tabs of [20], 16. Glue [18] on [19].
17. Glue [21] on to [20], and insert unit (glued) into [19] as far as it will go..
18. Add Air Scoop [22].
19. Cut out the area marked green.
2 20. Glue unit on wing in position marked.
Rear Wing
21. Cut out the Rear Wing [28], fold and glue. Insert in the rear of the fuselage after cutting out the 2 long green strips, and glue in place.
22. Cut out the Fin [34], fold and glue. Slide into slot (green, cut) on top of rear fuselage, and glue in place.
Undercarriage
23. Assemble the wheels, undercarriage and rear wheel as per the instructions on the sheet.
Propellers
24. Cut out, form and glue parts [30], [31] and [32] as per the instructions on the sheets.
