Design, solid phase synthesis and screening of N-(3-hydroxysulfonyl)-L-homoserine lactone analogues as new quorum sensing antagonists

A series of 8 new analogues of N-(3-hydroxysulfonyl)-L-homoserine lactone(HSL) has been synthesized by solid-phase organic synthesis method. Each of 8 synthesized com- pounds was given such tests as NMR, mass spectroscopy. Then followed a bacterial test designed to identify quorum-sensing inhibition activity and antifouling efficacy of those compounds. 8 synthesized compounds were found to be effective as quorum-sensing inhibitors.

Chitosan nanoparticles based on Polyelctrolyte Complexes of All-Trans Retinoic Acid and methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-grafted-chitosan

We synthesized methoxy poly(ethylene glycol)-grafted chitosan (ChitoPEG) copolymer to prepare RA-encapsulated polymeric micelle. RA-encapsulated polymeric micelle of ChitoPEG copolymer is 100∼500 nm in particle size and has spherical shape when observed by TEM. In 1H NMR study, the specific peaks of RA and chitosan as a drug carrying innercore disappeared at D2O and only the specific peak of MPEG was observed,

while specific peaks of MPEG, RA, and chitosan appeared at DMSO. This indicates that RA/ChitoPEG ion complexes are composed of polymeric micelle with a core-shell structure, and that free drug does not exist on the polymeric micelles formulations.

Direct Bio-ethanol Steam Reforming System in Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell

Molten carbonate fuel cell is a well known technology for future power generation. An integrated catalyst-coated anode for molten carbonate fuel cell, which is easy to manu- facture and performs high voltage and good stability, was developed. It showed com- petitive performance even though it was supplied with bio-ethanol in comparison to reformate gas. By simple coating a catalyst on one-side of the anode, high initial per- formance of molten carbonate fuel cell could be achieved. Ethanol steam reforming occurred on the catalyst layer while electrochemical reaction did on the anode electrode.
This modified anode showed good stability without decrease in performance for 100 h operation.

Changes in biofilm architecture in a membrane bioreactor

Using confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) and image analysis techniques, the porosity and biovolume of a biofilm formed on a membrane surface was analyzed along the length of hollow fibers. The porosity of the biofilm changed greatly along the length of hollow fibers. The lowest porosity was observed at the potted ends of membrane fibers which can be easily compressed by suction pressure. The biovolume of the biofilm near
the potted ends was greater than that near the free-moving ends. The spatial distributions of both porosities and biovolumes, however, became more uniform anlong the length of fibers.

Highly active Organo-silane based N-heterocyclic carbene Palladium catalyst immobilized on Silica for the Suzuki reaction

A new solid-supported palladium catalyst was prepared and proved to be highly effective catalyst for the Suzuki reaction. For this, N-heterocyclic carbene Palladium (NHC) complexes in an imidazolium-type Ionic Liquid matrix were prepared and immobilized on a silica surface. The Suzuki reaction was carried out in an aqueous medium at room temperature. After the reaction the catalyst was recovered quantitatively by simple filtration.
The catalyst revealed its full catalytic activity even at a low temperature. The reaction was completed in a short reaction time with small amounts of the catalyst. The catalyst could be recycled several times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.

Photodecomposition for highly concentrated ammonia over V TiO2s including Pt component prepared using two method types

This study investigated the effect of adding Pt component to V-TiO2 for highly concentrated ammonia photodecomposition. Pt components were introduced to the V-TiO2
photocatalysts using two method types: the common sol-gel (Pt-V-TiO2) and im- pregnation (Pt/V-TiO2) methods. The NH3 decomposition was slightly increased with va- nadium addition compared to that of pure TiO2, and the decomposition was further en- hanced with Pt addition. Particularly, the NH3 (1000 ppm) decomposition reached 100%
over Pt/V TiO2 after 120 min, although about 10∼30% of the ammonia was converted into undesirable NO2 and NO.

Rh 함유 촉매에서 n-hexadecane 부분산화에 의한 수소 생성 연구

This study was an attempt to produce syn-gas (H2, CO), which is used as a reducing agent in SCR (Selective catalytic reduction) of NOx, by partial oxidation of hexadecane over Rh catalysts. Employed catalysts were 0.2 wt% Rh-supported on Al2O3 and Ce- Zr-LaOX and these were characterized using XRD, BET, NH3/hexadecane-TPD, H2-TPR, and XPS. The reaction temperature ranged from 200 ℃ to 800 ℃, and space velocity and C/O ratio were fixed 25000 h-1 and 0.5, respectively. The hexadecane conversion and H2
selectivity increased with increase of reaction temperature in all catalysts. The best conversion of hexadecane reached near 100% at 700 ℃ and the selectivity of CO and H2
increased up to 800 ℃, continually.

직접 개미산 연료전지의 고성능 전극 제조법 개발

Small fuel cells are considered as replacements for batteries in portable power applications.
In direct liquid fuel cell systems, Pt/Ru and Pt catalysts are used for anode and cathode, respectively, and they are conventionally dispersed on the electrodes by air-spray. Since
the catalysts are noble metals, it is important to reduce catalyst loadings by effective dis- persion before commercialization. In this study, electrospray was tried for effective dis- persion of catalysts ink on electrodes. The prepared electrodes were estimated by single cell test at different formic acid concentrations.

Synthesis and Characterization of Fluorene-anthracene-Based Semiconductors for Organic Thin Film Transistors

최근 OTFT의 핵심 재료인 유기 반도체에 대한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 좋은 유기 반도체의 요건으로는 높은 stability와 좋은 performance를 들 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 산화 안정성이 우수한 fluorene과 유기 반도체 특성이 우수한 anthracene유도체들을 coupling reaction을 이용하여 OTFT용 유기 반도체를 합성하였다. 합성된 고분자는 H1-NMR, FT- IR, GPC, thermal analyses and UV-vis spectroscopy으로 characterization 되었다.

Effect of dope composition and temperature on the formation of integrally skinned PVdF membranes

This study explains the different factors affecting formation of membrane morpholo- gies at varying solvents concentrations and non-solvent temperatures. At elevated temper- atures, the process of liquid-liquid demixing dominated membrane formation. For dopes with γ-butyrolactone, crystallization influenced the formation of integrally skinned asym- metric membranes even at elevated temperatures. From the crystallinity studies, the for- mation of a particulate morphology did not ensure that a more organized and highly crys- talline sample can be obtained.
