Abstract - We proposed a method to obtain carbon-doped TiO
2(C-TiO
2) with a higher photocatalytic activity for degradation of toluene. Solar radiation was used as a visible light source for photocatalytic oxidation. An optical fiber reactor(OFR) was used to investigate the photocatalytic oxidation of toluene in air. All C-TiO
2films used as catalysts were synthesized by a modified sol-gel and combustion method using carbon nanoparticles. The performance of the OFR using C-TiO
2was evaluated under various experimental conditions. The effects of solar flux, surface sensitization, inlet concentration of toluene and concentration of carbon nanopowder in C-TiO
2were examined.

Abstract - We combined surface imprinting technique with sol-gel process for preparing a new iron(III)-imprinted thiocyanato-functionalized silica gel sorbent using 3-thiocyanatopropyltriethoxysilane as the functional monomer, and epichlorohydrin as the cross-linking agent for the selective removal of iron(III) from aqueous solution. The iron(III)- imprinted thiocyanato-functionalized silica gel was characterized by FT-IR spectra, SEM, and the static adsorptiondesorption method. Maximum binding capacity, optimum pH, and equilibrium binding time were found to be 20.31 mg·g-1, pH 4.2, and 20min, respectively. The relative selectivity coefficients of Fe(III)-imprinted thiocyanato- functionalized silica gel sorbents for Fe(III)/Ni(II), Fe(III)/Co(II), Fe(III)/Cd(II) and Fe(III)/Pb(II) were 11.8, 10.6, 8.2 and 9.1 times greater than the non-imprinted silica gel, respectively. The iron(III)-imprinted thiocyanato-functionalized silica gel sorbents could be used repeatedly without decreasing in their adsorption capacities significantly.

Abstract - This review deals with a recent development of biofuels and chemicals from biomass. Some of the grainbased biofuels and chemicals have already been in commercial operation, including fuel ethanol, biodiesel, 1.3-propanediol, polylactic acid (PLA) and polyhydroxy butyric acid/alkanoates (PHB/PHA). The next generation bioproducts will be based on lignocellulosics due to their abundance and to stabilize rising food prices. However, the technologies of handling biomass are yet in their infancy and suffer from low yield, low product titer, and low productivity. This review focuses on bioprocessing technologies for biofuels production: organic raw biomaterials available in Korea; volatile fatty acids

Electrorheological properties of polypyrrole-silica nanocomposite suspensions Young Dae Kim† † and Gi Gwang Hong
Faculty of Applied Chemistry, Chonnam National University, 300, Yongbong-dong, Gwangju 500-757, Korea Abstract - The electrorheological (ER) and dielectric properties of PPy-silica nanocomposite suspensions in silicone oil were investigated. Various PPy-silica nanocomposite particles were synthesized by suspension polymerization in the presence of silica nanoparticles controlling the ratio of silica/pyrrole during the polymerization. The ER response and the particle conductivity increased with the increase in the silica/pyrrole ratio, indicating that the increased particle polarization plays a role in enhancing the ER response. The dielectric properties of PPy-silica nanocomposite particles and their suspensions support that the enhanced ER response with the increase in the silica/pyrrole ratio arises from the enhanced polarization, which originates from the increased particle polarization.
