The Difference in the Changes in the Scientific Attitudes of Elementary Students with the Contents of the History of Science

The purpose of this study was to investigate the difference in the changes of scientific attitudes of elementary students with the contents of the history of science. To fulfill the purpose of this study, we divided a total of 157 sixth-grade students into 3 group: a group for the history of science related to scientific achievement (scientist), a group related to episode, and a group related to society. The results from this study were as follows: First, we found a relationship between the effects on scientific attitudes and the kinds of instruction. Second, instructions applying the history of science related to society were effective in all categories. Third, instructions applying the history of science related to scientific achievement were effective in only ‘Enjoyment of Science Lessons.’ Fourth, instructions applying the history of science related to the episode were effective in ‘Enjoyment of Science Lessons,’ ‘Leisure Interest in Science,’ and ‘Career Interest in Science.’
