Porous Silicon Organic Vapor Sensor Based on the Color-difference Image Technique

In this paper, the color-difference image technique was applied to detect organic vapors in a porous silicon gas sensor. The color-difference images were produced by applying a mathematical process to pictures of the sample surface taken by a high-speed CCD (charge-coupled device) camera before and during exposure to organic vapors. Those images clearly provided two-dimensional color- difference information that only showed part of the color change in the sensing area of the porous silicon layer. In addition, the sensitivity and the sensing range of the color-difference response signal were superior to those of other signals such as the photoluminescence and the current responses.
