- Procedure for Voluntary Notification of Identity Mismatch -
▢ Overview

Qualification - A person who:- is lawfully staying in Korea as a registered alien while holding a passport under mismatching personal information.
※Excluding, however,
-a person who is currently under entry prohibition;
-a person who had been deported from Korea on criminal offenses;
-a person who is likely to threaten the national interest of Korea;
-a person sentenced for imprisonment and greater criminal penalties ; -a person sentenced for sexual offenses; or
- a person who had obtained passports under false names more than once, etc.

Period and Location- Starting from Sep 17, 2012 to Nov 30, 2012 (for 75 days)
- At the immigration office having proper jurisdiction over your place of residence

How to- Visit the immigration office having proper jurisdiction over your current place of residence and submit the notification form - Proxy notification and request for the change of immigration office will not be accepted.
▢ Departure and Reentry Process

First leave the country after being issued a departure order and the certificate of departure.- Note: a marriage migrant, who has obvious humanitarian reasons such as in pregnancy or with underage children, will be given a grace period until departure for one year after a departure order.

After 6 months from such a departure (entry prohibition period), the person will be given a reentry permit under a newly issued visa after the identity is confirmed mismatched using the e-passport or new residence certificate.▢ Future Plan

If a person is arrested during the period of voluntary notification or found to have false identity after the period, the person shall receive deportation order and face the entry prohibition for 10 years.❍
The Korea Immigration Service under the Ministry of Justice will conduct a closer inspection on applicants for naturalization or visa issuance based on the Biometric Identification System.September 11, 2012
