Fabrication of Hexagonal Y 1−x Ca x MnO 3 Thin Films Through Epitaxial Phase Stabilization

3(YCMO) thin films were grown on Y-stabilized ZrO
2(YSZ) substrates by using a pulse laser deposition (PLD) method to fabricate artificial conducting ferroelectric sys- tem. The content of Ca in the YCMO thin films was varied in the range of x = 0 ∼ 30 %.
Epitaxially-stabilized YCMO thin films on hexagonal substrates showed enhanced Ca doping com- pared to bulk YCMO. With increasing x, the structure of the YCMO thin films changed from hexagonal to orthorhombic, and the surface roughness of the YCMO thin films increased. Ferro- electric YCMO with increased electrical conductivity should be useful in the study of the diode and photovoltaic effect observed recently.
