Middle-school Student’s Misconceptions about Gravity and Vacuum

This paper addresses middle-school students’ understanding of gravity and vacuum. The subject were 356 students in the Chungbuk area. The research shows that the students think of gravity as a state of clinging to the earth’s surface or feeling weight, and they regard a vacuum as weightlessness.
However, their ideas do not show any consistency. Many of them think that heavier things fall faster, and their answers vary as the context of the motion in the question on the questionnaire changes.
