“의미”에 기초한 번역 돌아오면 무엇을 하고 싶어질까?
“산티아고 길이 다 끝나고 날 때쯤 확실하게 얘기할 수 있게 되면 좋겠다. 하지만 책을 내고 그냥 떠났기 때문에, 일단 책을 만들어 주고 아껴 준 분들과 만나는 자리를 먼저 갖겠다. 책 이야기, 산티아고 이야기를 나누고 싶다. 그 목표를 생각하며 걷는다.”
What would you like to do when you return?
“I hope I will know what to do by the time I am about to finish my journey. What I know for sure at the moment is that I will get together with those who helped me write the book and who encouraged me, because I left immediately after the book was published.
I wish to talk about the book and share my experience about the Camino de Santiago. I am walking the Way with that goal in my mind.”
“때쯤”이란 그 시간이 가까워지면 이란 의미도 되지만 그 시간이 되기 전에라는 의미도 됨.
요즘 가장 머릿속을 맴도는 화두가 있다면?
“멋진 노인이 되기! 나의 진정한 야망이다. 어떻게 하면 남은 생애 30년을 남과 내가 도 움이 되는 삶을 살 수 있을까, 진짜 내가 하고픈 일을 하며 자유롭게 살며 늙어 갈까이 다.”
What is on the top of your list these days?
“To become a graceful old woman! My real desire. How I can be of service to myself, as well as to others, for the next 30 years? How can I do what I really want to do, growing old as a free human being?”

어쩌면 당신의 인생은 젊은 여성들의 로망일 수도 있다. 도움이 될 만한 말이 있다면?
“그런 거 생각해 보지 않았다. 젊은 사람에게 이래라저래라 하는 거 꼰대되는 첫걸음 같 아서 싫다. 그 나이에는 절대 알 수도, 할 수도 없는 일을 조언이라고 한다면 아마 나라 도 화가 날 것 같다.”
It might be that your life can capture the imagination of young women. ( You could be considered a role model by young women.) Any advice for them?
“I have never thought of myself as a role model. I hate being regarded as a senile old crank, who tries to teach young people. I would be offended if I myself were told to do what I could not know or could not do.”
여기서 로망이란 role model을 의미함.
꼰대란 손위 사람으로서 권위만 내세우며 잘난체하는 사람임.
인터뷰는 박씨가 3월27일 에스파냐로 출국하기 전에 한번 했고, 나머지는 카카오톡을 이 용해 해 보기로 했다. 산티아고 노정에서 박씨는 기자와 몇 차례 이야기를 주고받았다.
문자와 사진이 실시간으로 전송되면서 원거리 인터뷰임에도 거리감을 느낄 수 없었다.
세계는 점점 더 가까워지고 할 일도, 꿈꿀 시간도 더욱 많아지고 있다. 여성들이여! 변화 를 원한다면 용기를 내야 한다. 인생 후반, 잃을 것은 갱년기뿐이다.
