The world-famous Nazca Lines are in the Nazca Desert, Peru. It is said that they were made by the Nazca people between A.D. 400 and 650. The Nazca Lines are many kilometers long. The largest figures are up to 370 meters long. If you walk along the figure on the ground, you won’t notice anything special. To see what patterns the lines form, you have to be up in the air. What can you see from a little plane above the Nazca Lines? You can see a lot of interesting shapes and you will be surprised. One of the most famous patterns on the Nazca Lines is a monkey which has nine fingers and a tail in the shape of several circles. There are many other animal-like shapes such as men, spiders, fish, llamas, jaguars, and birds. Interesting shapes of trees and flowers can be found on the Nazca Lines, too. However, there are still other strange shapes. It is difficult to tell what they are like or what they really mean. Scientists think the lines served a religious purpose for the Nazca culture that created them.
