In this report, I present in detail the development process and the results of the event. Reflecting the characteristics of the target group, we decided to develop a new type of physical calculation teaching kit. In this way, we continue to make further efforts, such as conducting experiments to verify the effectiveness of the concept objectively.
Introduction
In this chapter, I define the aims of the project and define the direction of the project and the research methods and activities accordingly. I conducted a literature study, a user study, and a market study to understand user characteristics and product characteristics. This chapter presents the process of determining the direction of the project and establishing the design criterion based on the results obtained through the desktop study.
Desktop studies
In the case of educational content, I refer to educational books and websites for students in Korea. In the case of conductive copper strips, the advantages are the free parts and the parts that form the circuit. For sticker-type products, it can refer to any material, so it is suitable for convergent education.
Design Proposal
The shape of the sticker is intuitive so the user can know how to use it naturally and be able to prompt the user's next action. The product's interface must be intuitive, easy to use, easy to learn and easy to remember. The structure and shape of the product must be improved to ensure proper use and prevent errors.
The product must be designed so that children are not injured by burns or sharps when using it. The size and thickness of the book should be suitable for the child to hold. As the intended age of the product is 5-9 years, you should use colorful colors to stimulate children's emotions and draw them with friendly illustrations.
Since it is thin in the form of a sticker and can be attached anywhere, it is possible to complete the circuit by sticking the sticker on different types of materials, such as paper or plastic, it can be used in children's creations. Since it's a sticker book, it's easy to organize and portable. Even in the case of the teacher, a story is presented for explanation compared to other textbooks, so it can easily be used as a guide to progress through the course.
In this chapter, I defined the project, identified the problems of the product I planned, and provided detailed criteria for solving the problems.
Implementation
In the first tool prototype, I tried to divide both sides of the sticker into different colors, black and red, so that the children could recognize the cathode and anode. In the case of the sticker shape, I was worried about how to assemble them and position the components. And at this point I started thinking about the story, one of the most important parts.
The cover features an illustration of police hats, arms and legs on the body of the resistance, and a crossroad and a sign to go slow. I designed the size of the sticker largely to make it easier to keep it off children's hands. I thought about how to use it, and I decided to include an illustration of the workbook on the blank side.
In the illustration I created a cute electric character and used that as the main speaker of the story. That is why the content of the book and the illustration of the sticker book are matched. When children read the contents of the book, only the image of the sticker can naturally represent the image of the page.
I also made an activity block to link the stickers together with the content of the book. The surface of the paper was coated with a glossy layer so that it could be separated and glued. And, anywhere on earth, I put a conductive strip on it to make the electricity flow to the negative terminal of the battery.
Discussion & Implications
First, in the case of educational tools, it is difficult and dangerous for young children to use them because the design and specification of the electronic products used follow industrial use. In the case of a partner company, the delegate gave the idea of product development based on his experienced knowledge through experience in the development and operation of educational content based on actual experience of lectures. Therefore, with the help of the educational research institute, it is necessary to determine which points need to be evaluated and improved in accordance with the national pair education standard in the newly developed set.
In the process, we are able to assess the educational value of this equipment and become certified to be available in the field. In the early days, we tried to get the children used to the appearance of the parts by inserting the components of the finished products directly into the sticker. Therefore, there may be differences in the concepts of professional and science educators and the concepts accepted by children.
In the program, the explanation for "all the way home" can naturally educate and correct this misconception. In the textbook, to correct this misconception, electricity only moves in one direction, and the light from the bulb is not expressed by the collision of electricity, but by the activity of electricity inside the bulb. So I will improve this by adding additional material in the next step of the educational book so that I can correct this misconception.
In the next step, children are able to explain the new elements of the diode and resolve children's misunderstandings about the sequential flow model.
Conclusion
And the illustrations of the stickers and the manuals must match each other, so that they can learn in a natural way. Whatever stickers are applied, all elements must be able to work when completing the circuit. I would like to present the progress of the project as an example of the development of educational textbooks for STEAM education to relevant educational researchers and be used as research data for the development of educational textbooks.
At the same time, I would like to propose the results of this project as an alternative teaching tool in related field and provide relevant criteria and basis for designing related products in the future. First, I collect detailed research data and evidence on the pedagogical evaluation method, which has been one of the limitations of research. Then, user testing is carried out to check the physical and external factors of the product and the suitability of the content difficulty.
I can develop thinner and more convenient stickers using printed electronics or ultra-small electronic components. In addition, it is necessary to improve the quality of the sticker by using the glue that is better in the adhesive strength and the good conductivity. I believe that it is desirable to prepare the evaluation criteria by consulting related teaching staff and researchers and conduct the test.
