Abstract: One species of the genus Otoblastus Förster, 1869 belonging to the subfamily Tryphoninae, family Ichneumonidae, is re- ported in South Korea for the first time. Previously, only one species, Otoblastus marginator Kasparyan,1982, had been recorded in South Korea. In the present study, we present the diagnosis, photographs of the South Korean Otoblastus maculator Kasparyan, 1999, and a modified key to species from Palaearctic region.

Introduction

The genus Otoblastus (Ichneumonidae: Tryphoninae) is rare in collections and was first described by Förster in 1869 based on Tryphon luteomarginatus. The world fauna of this genus comprises of only six species: one of which was reported in South Korea (Kasparyan, 1982;

Yu et al., 2016). Taxonomic studies of this Otoblastus in South Korea are scarce (Kasparyan, 1982; Lee & Cha 1996, 2000). Only a female specimen and 12 males of

Otoblastus marginator were recorded in Suwon by Kasparyan in 1982. According to Kasparyan (1982), this species is a parasite of Tomostethus sp. n. on the plant of Fraxinus. In the Palaearctic, four species of this genus have been recorded and this genus was known to be a parasite of sawflies (Yu et al., 2016).

In the present study, the diagnosis of Otoblastus mac- ulator, photos of diagnostic characters, and a key to spe- cies of the modified Palaearctic Otoblastus are provided.

Materials and Methods

The material used in this study was collected by Malaise trapping and was deposited in the National Institute of Biological Resources (NIBR, Incheon, South Korea). Morphological terminology follows Gauld (1991), and distributional data follows Yu et al. (2016). The specimen was examined using a Leica MC190 HD Camera attached to a Leica M125 Microscope (Leica Microsystems, Germany) with images, processed using LEICA LAS X software (Leica).

Diagnosis. Distance between antennal sockets not more than 0.2 times as long as the diameter of a socket;

fore wing with areolet; first metasomal tergite short and weakly constricted to its base, with basolateral carinae;

Key to species of genus Otoblastus from Palaearctic (modified by Kasparyan, 1982, Kasparyan & Tolkanitz, 1999)

1. Scutellum and two spots on anterolateral margins of mesonotum, as well as broad border along hind

margin of metasomal tergites I-VII pale yellow;

face, clypeus, fore and mid legs, and hind tro- chanters bright yellow; antenna with 30-40 flag- ellomeres (Kasparyan, 1982: 141; Kasparyan &

sion; mandible yellow, upper tooth longer than lower;

malar space short, almost half of the basal width of man- dible; frons and vertex black; occipital carina complete;

antenna flagellum dark brown dorsally and ventral part yellow, antenna with 23 flagellomeres. Mesosoma com- pletely black (Fig. 1C); pronotum with epomia; meso- scutum with indistinct notauli; scutellum convex, scu- tellar lateral carinae reach to the middle of scutellum;
