EXPORT - IMPORT
- Agriculture-aquatic-forestry exports in the first five months of 2016 reached US$12.18 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.9%. Viet Nam gained US$2.43 billion from exporting aquatic products, up 1%. The U.S., Japan, China and the Republic of Korea were among top importers, together accounting for 51.74%.

FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT (FDI)
- The manufacturing and processing industry took the lead in attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) with a total registered capital of more than US$6.6 billion over past five months this year, accounting for 65.1% of the total FDI inflow. Information-communication and the real estate sectors occupied second and third positions with US$1.3 billion and US$542.8 million, making up 12.8% and 5.4%, respectively. (chinhphu.vn, May 30, 2016)
VIETNAM’S RECENT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
- There were more than 44,700 newly established enterprises in Vietnam with a total capital of 349.5 trillion VND (15.5 billion USD in the first five months of this year. According to the Department of Business Registration, this represents a 24% year-on-year increase in the number of new businesses, and a 59% year-on- year rise in capital. (mpi.gov.vn, May 31, 2016)
- The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) in the first five months of 2016 picked up 7.5% from the same period last year, with May’s figure increasing 7.8% year- on-year. - The number of foreign visitors from the Western
Europe witnessed a double-digit growth in the past five months of the year.
Up to 757,200 foreigners travelled to Viet Nam in May, down 4.1% against the previous month and up 30.2% compared to the same period last year.

- The World Bank (WB) approved US$ 119 million in additional financing for Vietnam urban water supply and wastewater project to respond to wastewater needs of ed urban areas in Vietnam. - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has approved

- Vetjet Aviation Joint Stock Company (Vietjet) and
Boeing Group have signed a large-scale contract worth US$11.3 billion for 100 B737 MAX 200 airplanes. The deal was reached on Monday in Ha Noi under the witness of Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quangand American President Barack Obama.
