INTRODUCTION

Cho et al.(2020) described a new lecithocerid genus, Parki- ana, with two new species, Parkiana matutinalis and Park- iana andasibensis, from Andasibe, Madagascar. Although the descriptions and figures presented by Cho et al.(2020) fully characterized the new genus and species, the journal issue in which the description appeared was published on- line-only(the journal changed the policy of publication as an e-print only journal from the second issue of volume 33, 2017), and the ZooBank LSID, required for validation of new names in electronic-only publications(ICZN, 2012), for the article in which the new genus and species names appeared was not included. Thus, the names Parkiana Cho, Parkiana matutinalis Cho & Agassiz and Parkiana andasi- bensis Cho & Agassiz, as published in Animal Systematics, Evolution and Diversity 36(2):107-112(Cho et al., 2020), is not available according the International Code of Zoologi- cal Nomenclature, hereafter, the Code(ICZN, 1999, 2012).

Therefore, the present note serves to validate the names Parkiana, Parkiana matutinalis and Parkiana andasibensis by fulfilling Code conditions for nomenclatural availability.

All the types will be deposited in the Natural History Mu-

seum(NHMUK)(formerly the British Museum of Natural History), London, UK.

Type species: Parkiana matutinalis Cho & Agassiz, sp.

nov.; by present designation.

Diagnostic description. The new genus is defined by the following: forewing very narrow, with wing venation differ- ent from any allied genera in Torodorinae, with R2 and R3

coincident, and with R4 and R5 stalked or R5 absent; antenna longer than the forewing length, with flagellum simply thick- ened, flattened in basal 1/3, then creamy white, dark brown in apical 1/5. A detailed description is in Cho et al.(2020).

Etymology. The genus name Parkiana is a patronym hon- oring our colleague and a prominent microlepidopterist, Dr.

ABSTRACT

Recently, the new genus Parkiana(Lecithoceridae) and its two new species, Parkiana matutinalis and Parkiana andasibensis, were described by the authors from Andasibe, Madagascar. Although the morphological descriptions and figures fully characterized the new genus with two new species in that paper, the journal issue in which the description appeared was published online-only, and the ZooBank LSID, required for validation of new names in electronic-only publications, was not included. Therefore, the present note serves to validate the names of the new genus and species, Parkiana, Parkiana matutinalis and Parkiana andasibensis, by fulfilling Code conditions for nomenclatural availability.

Parkiana matutinalis Cho & Agassiz, 2020: 108, figs. 1A- C, 2A-D [unavailable].

Type specimen. Holotype: male, Madagascar: Andasibe 960 m, 18°57ʹS, 48°25ʹE, 15-19.iv.2016, leg. D. Agassiz & K.

Larsen, gen. slide no. CIS-7328, sequence no. CBNU130.

Diagnostic description. The new species can be distin- guished from Thubdora species by the elongate forewing with different venation by having R2 and R3 coincident and R4 and R5 stalked, but it is hardly distinguishable from the latter in genital characters. It can also be separated from the following new species, Parkiana andasibensis by the fore- wing venation with R4 and R5 stalked, the hindwing with M2 present, and the male genitalia with narrower, more elongat- ed cucullus. A detailed full description is in Cho et al.(2020).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin, matutinus(=of the morning) with Latin superlative ending, -alis(Cho et al., 2020).

slide no. CIS-7329, sequence no. CBNU126.

Diagnostic description. This new species can be distin- guished from P. matutinalis by wing venations of both wings: forewing with R3 and R4 coincident; hind wing with M2 absent, M3 and CuA1 stalked. Abdomen has character- istically with a pair of short hair-pencils on each dorsal sur- face of 4th, 5th, and 7th segment laterally(Cho et al., 2020).

A detailed full description is in Cho et al.(2020).

Etymology. The specific name is derived from the type lo- cality, Andasibe(Cho et al., 2020).
