Statement of the Republic of Korea
Thank you, Mr. President.
The Republic of Korea thanks Belgium for its continued engagement in the UPR process and appreciates the comprehensive presentation today.
We welcome Belgium’s acceptance of our recommendations on the establishment of a national human rights mechanism and respect for human rights in the implementation of counter terrorism.
Although our recommendation on dealing with domestic violence through adopting specific legislation does not enjoy Belgium’s support, we firmly believe that Belgium continues to tackle the issue through the effective implementation of its national action plan 2015-2019 for combating gender-based violence.
It is our sincere hope that these recommendations, regardless of whether or not they are accepted, will contribute to Belgium’s efforts to further improve the human rights situation on the ground.
The Republic of Korea endorses the adoption of the UPR Working Group’s report on Belgium by the Council and looks forward to Belgium’s successful implementation of accepted recommendations.
