Company Description
Bulgaria's road construction firm Holding Company Roads was established in 1996 as a privatisation fund during the country's mass privatisation process in the 1990s.
The company's list of activities features road construction and overhaul, building and repair of bridge constructions, production of inert materials, production of traffic safety devices, construction machinery service and repairs, etc.
In January 2006, Bulgarian shipbuilder Burgas Shipyard sold a 24% stake in Holding Company Roads to a firm owned by local gambling tycoon Vassil Bozhkov for EUR 6.0 million.
In September 2006, the shipyard sold its remaining 45.16% stake in the holding to local construction company Road Engineering 2004 for EUR 6.3 million.
As of end-2006, the listed holding controlled 16 companies engaged in road construction and one leasing vehicle.
In May 2006, Bulgaria's state-run Road Executive Agency awarded a EUR 10 million roads upgrade deal to Holding Company Roads.
In December 2006, Road Engineering 2004 sold its stake in the company to local ABV Engineering for BGN 1.27 million and Vabo Hit sold its shares for BGN 1.68 million to local firm Eurobuilding 2000.
In April 2007, Holding Company Roads bought a 93%
stake in local road builder Patenginering Pleven for EUR 690, 000. The takeover brought the number of Holding Company Roads’ subsidiaries to 17. The company holds 100% in 15 of them, and slighly above 90% in the remaining two.
In January 2008, Holding Company Roads said it expected BGN 42 million in net profit for 2008. The company sees its 2007 revenue at BGN 180 million with investments at EUR 42 million.
March 2009, the Bulgarian competition regulator has approved the acquisition of Sofia-based private jet charter operator AVB-2004 by Holding Roads. The construction company is about to acquire a 97.66%
stake in the flight firm for an undisclosed sum. AVB- 2004 was co-owned by Lear Company AD and Bulgarian private company Nove Holding. AVB-2004 provides charter services to private and corporate clients. The flights are executed to private airports in France and the UK.
December 2009, the local Road Infrastructure Agency awarded BGN 142 million in winter maintenance and repair works of roads contracts to Holding Roads. The deal covers 4,705 km in over 20 municipalities. In
