SUMMARY

The value and Principles of Digital Twins Ecosystem for Natural and Built Environment in Korea

Key words: Digital Twin for natural and built Environment, Digital Twin Ecosystem, Principles for National Digital Twin in Korea

A digital twin is a digital representation(replica) of a real object, in which the real world and the virtual world are synchronized, and it is a technology that realizes optimization of operations and decision-making using synchronized data.

The digital twin for natural and built environment, which is a digital twin for nation and cities, has the greatest feature of synchronization and intelligence between the real world and the digital world.

This study aims to suggest the concept and economic and social value of the digital twins for natural and built environment as a national digital twin, and presents the principles for realizing the value of the digital twins for natural and built environment by examining the ecosystem, development stage, and obstacles of the digital twin for natural and built environment.

Through the digital twins for natural and built environment, benefits such as reduced infrastructure operation cost, efficient decision-making, and

consequent increase in public interest, improved national productivity, improved risk management, new market value creation, and increased resource efficiency can be expected.

The digital twins for natural and built environment are a representative technology and system that more realistically realizes an intelligent information society of hyper-connection, hyper-convergence, super-intelligence, and surreal sense. It is a data ecosystem in which development digital twins are linked.

For this purpose, we claim that purpose, federation and efficiency must be pursued. In this study, ten principles such as purpose, synchronization, coalition, technology/people, data integration, governance, interoperability, data quality, openness, and security are proposed to create a digital twin ecosystem for natural and built environment.

Through this study, we propose the vision of a “super-connected convergence platform for a sustainable intelligent information society”, three directions of purpose, efficiency, and federation, also ten principles for promoting a digital twin for natural and built environment through this study. Second, based on the principle, it is proposed to form a consultative body in which working groups from each department, department, and field participate to promote the digital twin for natural and built environment. Third, it is proposed to proceed with the agreement of principles through the consultative body, establishment of a roadmap considering the stages and principles of digital twin for natural and built environment development, and establishment of a digital twin for natural and built environment information sharing platform.
