우리나라를 비롯한 전 세계는 코로나19 (Coronavirus disease 2019, COVID-19)로 인해 역사 발전의 중대한 분기점(critical juncture)에 서 있다. COVID-19는 정치, 경제, 교육, 의료 등의 분야에서 우리가 그동안 당연하게 여기며 해 오던 많은 것들이 ‘정말 로 그래야 하는가’라는 의문을 갖게 한다. COVID-19 이후(post COVID-19) 우리의 삶은 어떻게 변화할 것이며, 새로운 기준과 규범 (new normal)은 어떠해야 하는지에 대해 성찰하게 한다.

특히 COVID-19가 교육과정 및 교육방법, 국제교류 등에 크게 영향을 끼침에 따라 글로벌 역량 강화를 위해 해외 파견 이외에도

다양한 국제화 프로그램이 제공되어야 한다.

Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL)은 비슷한

내용의 강의를 두 개 이상의 국가(대학)에서 제공하는 경우 온라인

강의를 이용하여 팀티칭으로 수업하는 것이다 . 학생들은 온라인 강

의에 참여하여 주제에 대한 다양한 시각으로 접근할 수 있고 물리적

이동 없이 해외 학생들과 교류함으로써 서로 문화를 이해하고 국제

화 마인드를 함양할 수 있다 . 현재 미국 뉴욕주립대(State University

of New York)에 COIL 센터가 있으며, 많은 미국 대학들이 다양한

국가와 다양한 주제로 프로그램을 운영하고 있다 .
