Seminar Title: How to Import & Export Under the U.S./Korea Free Trade Agreement

Date & Place: Thursday 9/27, 1:30-5:30 p.m., CITT Long Beach, CA Speaker: Daniel L. Gardner, President of Trade Facilitators, Inc.

Cost: $275 per person ($225 with discount with code USKODG) Objectives:

a) Understand the content, scope and intent of the U.S./Korea Free Trade Agreement b) Determine how products qualify for claims of preference under the KORUS FTA c) Provide tactical knowledge on how to import & export using the U.S./Korea FTA

Prior to the implementation of the U.S./Korea Free Trade Agreement on March 15th of this year, South Korea was already the sixth largest trading partner of the United States. With thousands of products now enjoying duty free status in both countries, commerce between the U.S. and South Korea will continue to expand at an even greater pace.

In recognition of the importance of this FTA, The Center for International Trade &

Transportation at California State University Long Beach has designed a half-day seminar that provides both importers & exporters with the operational know-how to benefit from this trade pact. Subjects that will be covered during the event are:

-A brief history of the U.S./Korea Free Trade Agreement -Importing & exporting under the KORUS FTA

-Tariff elimination & non-tariff measures -Annex 6-A specific rules of origin -Testing for Regional Value Content -How to make a preference claim -Record keeping requirements

-Insights on agricultural products, textiles & apparel, pharmaceuticals & medical devices

This event is the first of a 3-part trade series running through November of 2012. The two subsequent events are entitled, Incoterms® 2010: Understanding & Application and The Financial Implications of Global Supply Chain Management. Speaker Profile

Daniel L. Gardner is founder and president of Trade Facilitators, Inc., a Los Angeles based supply chain consulting and training firm. Prior to launching TFI, Mr. Gardner worked for twenty three years in the Third Party Logistics business where he held senior management positions with entities that include Fritz Companies and DHL Global Forwarding. During his career Dan lived abroad for five years and has travelled to more than fifty countries around the world.

In addition to his professional experience, Dan spent five years as an adjunct faculty member of both The University of Miami and Florida International University Graduate Business Schools where he taught Global Logistics & Supply Chain Management. In 2002, Mr. Gardner was selected as the Professor of the Year in the Masters of International Business Program at Florida International University.

A native of Lynn, Massachusetts, Mr. Gardner holds an MBA from the University of Miami and has been a licensed customhouse broker in the U.S. since 1989. Dan has also been Certified in Production & Inventory Management (CPIM) by The American Production & Inventory Control Society (APICS), holds a Black Belt in Six Sigma and earned a certification by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) as a Physical Security Professional.

As an author and journalist, Dan’s work has appeared in The Journal of Commerce, APICS Magazine, CSCMP Global Perspectives and Inbound Logistics magazine. His first book, Supply Chain Vector: Methods for Linking the Execution of Global Business Models with Financial Performance was selected by Inbound Logistics Magazine in 2008 as part of its “Must Read List” for supply chain professionals.

Dan’s fourth book, How to Use International Trade Terms for Competitive Advantage &

Financial Gain was released in July of 2012.
