Shared information on a process of credit approval from a public school system. Discussed sample documents provided for the credit approval process.
Shared a process of opening a Korean language class in a public school. Developed a better knowledge about public school system.
Shared thoughts for following-up with planning and working with Korean American community and local school system.
STEP BY STEP PROCESS LOBBYING
Meet with public school board members. Meet with appropriate school officials.
Meet with other ethnic school leaders and community leaders to collaborate the effort.
Identify strategies to initiate the process. ESTABLISHING A COMMITTEE
Select appropriate members including Korean school officials, public school staff from the Department of Instructional Programs and Foreign Language Office for the committee.
Study various community schools and their programs.
Prepare recommendations: program requirements, a proposed policy for school board’s approval, etc.
GETTING READY
Submit the above mentioned recommendation packet by the Associate Superintendent or Director of the Department of Instructional Programs to be presented to the Instructional Advisory Committee (public hearing).
Do attend the Instructional Advisory Committee hearings. Bring supporters and community leaders.
Do attend THIS board meeting approving the results from the Instructional Advisory Committee hearing.
Celebrate!
Prepare and submit the required documents meeting the criteria to be approved by the Department of Instructional Programs.
