GMR Energy limited directly or through its affiliates proposes to establish 2 * 350 MW – 370 MW Natural gas based combined cycle power plant at Vemagiri, Rajahmundry, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh.
The proposed project would be located next to the existing 388.5 MW Combined Cycle Power Plant which is already in operation. The Plant site is located in Vemagiri Village in East district of Andhra Pradesh about 12 kms from Rajahmundry. Site is just 1.5 kms away from Rajahmundry – Kakinada segment of highway No.NH-5. The nearest airport is Rajahmundry at about 32 kms from site and the nearest sea port is Vizag, which is at a distance of about 200 kms from project site.
Land required for the project is already in possession. The water for proposed project will be drawn from the river Godavari. The point of water drawl is around 7 kms away from the site. The permission required for the drawl of water has been obtained by the project proponent. All the formalities for obtaining the Environmental Clearance are completed and expecting the clearance shortly. Project proponent has already submitted the application for the supply of fuel to the project and the evacuation of the power from the project.
Exisiting 388.5 MW power plant is connected to the GAIL network through which the gas is being supplied.
This GAIL gas network is also connected with the East West gas pipeline network which gives the flexibility of using the RLNG for the proposed project. The project proponent has already submitted its application with GAIL for the last mile connectivity of the gas pipeline to the project. Project proponent is already in discussions with the FI’s for the funding of the project.
