WHAT SUPPORT IS THE UK PROVIDING?
Summary
This programme will contribute to supporting the Government of Iraq in delivering services for all Iraqi citizens making returns to areas re-taken from Daesh. It will support safer and more sustainable returns through the following strands:
Stabilisation
Immediate support to the Government of Iraq to rebuild critical infrastructure, resume essential services and provide livelihood opportunities in areas that have been liberated from Daesh through the UNDP managed Funding Facility for Immediate Stabilisation (FFIS).
Community reintegration and safety
Establishing Community Development Councils in selected liberated areas of Iraq and supporting them to work with local government to deliver community action plans, including social cohesion and conflict
mitigation initiatives, peace education, infrastructure rehabilitation and income generating activities through the Danish Refugee Council.
Governance
Support to provincial government to improve their capability to deliver services in an inclusive manner which promotes stability over the medium to long term.
Advisory support
Advisory support to inform Government of Iraq, international community and UK activities and strategy, including a stabilisation advisor and conflict & governance advisor.
WHAT RESULTS DOES THE UK EXPECT TO ACHIEVE?
The overall aim of the programme is to support the Government of Iraq in delivering services for all Iraqi citizens; and to ensure that returns of displaced people are safe and sustainable. This contributes to our intended impact of a more stable, secure and unified Iraq. UK funding will support: local authorities to plan and deliver stabilisation activities that respond to the diverse needs of communities (women and men);
communities to hold the government to account; and activities that deliver greater cohesion between communities.
