Sample Introduction Systems
Elemental Scientific, Inc. (ESI) designs and produces a range of sample introduction systems for the determination of trace element concentrations and isotope ratios in liquid samples when using inductively coupled plasma instrumentation (ICP). ICP-OES and ICP-MS instruments measure most of the elements in the periodic table and are used daily by many laboratories as a routine analytical tool. ESI has many products improving upon the efficiency and capabilities of the ICP sample introduction system.
ESI has sample introduction systems for a wide range applications, including semiconductor pure chemicals, environmental, clinical, organic solvents, isotope ratio, and many other types of trace metal determinations.

PFA-HS High Solids Nebulizer
The PFA-HS nebulizer has a larger internal capillary than the standard ST type nebulizers, preventing salt deposition at the nebulizer tip.
The PFA construction helps prevent clogging and affords a high chemical resistance for applications involving concentrated acids, bases and organic solvents.
Available in two types:
x ST-type with detachable capillary
x Integrated capillary that can directly insert to Peristaltic pump tubing
Internal flow path = 0.3 mm
The large-bore constriction free capillary runs the length of the nebulizer.

PFA-LS Laser Ablation Nebulizer
Many laser ablation studies involve the introduction of a liquid standard aerosol for performing mass calibrations, ICP optimization etc.
The PFA-LS has been designed so that it produces a fine aerosol at low nebulizer gas flow rates (0.2—0.3L/min) allowing more sample gas to pass through the laser ablation chamber.

PFA-LC for Liquid Chromatography
The PFA-LC nebulizer has a smaller internal capillary than the standard ST type nebulizers.
The small dead volume (<3µL) reduces band broadening effects, once a peak leaves the column.
Supplied with common HPLC fittings for zero dead volume connections to the HPLC system.
Suitable for both micro and standard flow chromatography.
Designed specifically for PFA-ST and PolyPro-ST nebulizers to remove clogs. Includes one guide, 10 pieces of fused silica and instructions. For use with ST type nebulizers only. Not necessary for High Solids nebulizers.

ESI provides a range of PFA sample probes offering high chemical resistance for applications involving strong acids, alkalis and organics. A contoured design reduces carry over while an all PFA wetted sample flow path reduces contamination. The Teflon® construction is reinforced by a completely encapsulated support.
Support materials include:

Colored markers indicate internal diameter. It is recommended that integrated capillary nebulizers (not ST-type) be used for flow rates < 100 µL/min.

Teflon Sample Probes for ST Nebulizers
ST nebulizer capillaries and probes connect directly to any ST-type nebulizer. The 1/4-28 threaded fitting provides a secure, zero-dead- volume connection with no additional fittings.

PFA MicroFlow nebulizers are constructed entirely from chemically resistant fluoropolymers, ideal for strong acids, alkalis, organics, high salt solutions, and high solid concentrations. They are resistant to clogging, are reliably self-aspirated or pumped, and produce a fine aerosol for high transport efficiency and high sensitivity.

These nebulizers allow self-aspiration at low sample consumption rates with any autosampler while providing the same benefits of the PFA MicroFlow nebulizer. The integrated sampling probe is constructed by encapsulating a rigid support material between layers of Teflon to provide a chemically resistant probe that is mechanically stable and resilient.
These nebulizers allow self-aspiration at low sample consumption rates. The unique design eliminates connectors between the sample and the nebulizer, minimizing contamination and dead volume. Since the sample contacts only Teflon®, the PFA MicroFlow nebulizer is the cleanest, most chemically resistant nebulizer available.

SC Autosamplers have been developed to improve throughput, reduce cross contamination, and improve flexiblity. A full range of autosamplers are available to suit the needs of ICPMS and ICP-OES labs.
The combination of dual flowing rinse station and guide free sample probe have been proven to reduce blank contamination and sample carry over.
SC-Autosamplers can hold the widest range of both large standard racks and/or micro racks, accommodating vials ranging from 500µL micro tubes to 250mL bottles.

The SC-4 provides a full-featured autosampler with a small footprint, making it ideal for labs with minimal bench space. It can hold up to 4 standard racks or 6 micro racks. Combinations of standard and micro racks are also possible in the same run.
The SC-4 is ideal for laboratories with moderate to high sample loads and a variety of sample types.
SC-8104-1000 SC-4 Autosampler
The SC-8 is the smallest eight-rack autosampler on the market. It is designed for laboratories that have limited space but need to improve efficiency through higher autosampler capacity.
The high-capacity SC-8 increases the length of unattended runs and reduces the time associated with reloading sample racks on smaller autosamplers.
The SC-8 is the only eight-rack ICP/ICPMS autosampler with immediate access to all eight racks. The SC-8 can be configured to hold up to 99 standard/QC vials.
SC-8108-1000 SC-8 Autosampler
The SC-14 provides unsurpassed sample capacity to ensure the longest unattended operation for overnight runs or even over weekend runs. It can hold up to 14 standard racks or 30 microtiter plates. The SC-14 autosampler is available either as a bench top or as a mobile autosampler with integrated cart. The SC-14 is ideal for laboratories with high sample loads.

SC Enclosures
Clean Enclosure for SC-Autosampler
Mini-clean environments are recommended for control of airborne contamination, especially for ICPMS. The ULPA filter removes 99.999% of airborne particles down to 0.12 microns.
Enclosures control evaporation and environmental contamination. Only the sample area is enclosed allowing free access to the rest of the instrument.
The large flexible door opens easily and closes securely providing easy access to the sample racks.

Laboratories currently using Cetac, Perkin Elmer, or Varian autosamplers, as well as ESI SC autosamplers can now immediately benefit from higher throughput without changing autosamplers.
The oneFAST system includes a small automated sample injection valve and vacuum pump which dramatically improves throughput by reducing sample uptake and rinse times. oneFAST may be used with standalone or integrated valve modules.
Peltier-cooled spray chamber/valve modules are available for ICPMS and organic solvent ICPAES applications.
oneFAST includes software and method features of the standard SC-FAST system, providing better rinse-out and higher throughput than any sample introduction system on the market.
oneFAST provides an upgrade pathway to higher capacity 8 or 14 rack autosamplers (SC-8 and SC- 14) for laboratories that may require higher capacity autosamplers in the future.

The Spiro TMD is a heated macro-porous PTFE Teflon® membrane desolvation module that reduces solvent derived polyatomic interferences in the ICPMS mass spectrum. Both aqueous and organic solutions can be desolvated, making the Spiro ideal for HPLC applications.
The Spiro can also be used without the Apex to add membrane desolvation to standard sample introduction systems.
Spiro TMD Module
The ACM is a Peltier cooled micro-porous Nafion® membrane desolvation module for removing residual solvent vapor and small polar organic compounds to reduce polyatomic interferences.
Cooling the membrane improves desolvation efficiency and long term stability. The Nafion membrane has a Chemical resistance similar to Teflon®. Sweep gas does not permeate through membrane making it simple to operate.

Cyclonic Spray Chambers offer the advantages of low-memory effects, fast rinse-out, and higher sample transport efficiency. O-ring free connections to the nebulizer and injector eliminate a possible source of contamination. The PC3 is a small, simple, and robust cooler for ICPMS and ICPAES cyclonic spray chambers.
The PC3 cools the outer walls of the cyclonic spray chamber to a constant temperature enhancing long-term signal stability, reducing polyatomic ion interferences, such as oxides, and reducing solvent loading when volatile organic solvents are analyzed. The cyclonic spray chamber offers the advantages of low-memory effects, fast rinse-out, and in many cases higher sample transport efficiency.
